Job summary

Ford in Chennai is seeking an Advanced Robotics Simulation Engineer to design, develop, and validate high-fidelity virtual environments and robotic simulation platforms, bridging simulation and real-world deployment.

Qualifications

  • 3–7 years in robotics engineering or simulation platform development.
  • Strong programming in Python and ROS2 experience.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain high-fidelity robotic simulation environments with Isaac Sim and Isaac Lab.
  • Build and optimise sensor and actuator simulation pipelines for virtual testing and validation.
  • Develop scalable frameworks for robotic experimentation and performance evaluation.
  • Implement and optimise physics-based reinforcement learning workflows using Isaac Gym.
  • Develop ROS2 interfaces and ensure integration between simulation and hardware.
  • Automate USD asset import, scene generation, testing workflows, and domain randomisation.
  • Build and maintain Docker-based containerised simulation environments and GPU workloads.

Job description

The Advanced Robotics Simulation Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and validating high-fidelity virtual environments and robotic simulation platforms. This role focuses on bridging the gap between simulated and real-world robotic deployment through automated simulation pipelines, reinforcement learning frameworks, ROS2 integration, and GPU-accelerated infrastructure.

The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in robotics software development, simulation technologies, and modern AI-based robot training methodologies. The role requires close collaboration with hardware, controls, and software engineering teams to improve robotic performance and accelerate development cycles.

Simulation Development Architecture
  • Design, develop, and maintain high-fidelity robotic simulation environments using NVIDIA Isaac Sim and Isaac Lab.
  • Build and optimise sensor and actuator simulation pipelines for virtual testing and validation.
  • Develop scalable frameworks for robotic experimentation and performance evaluation.
Robot Learning AI Training
  • Implement and optimise physics-based reinforcement learning (RL) workflows using Isaac Gym and related frameworks.
  • Leverage robotics foundation models, including NVIDIA GR00T, to accelerate robot learning and autonomy development.
  • Evaluate and improve model performance through iterative training and validation.
Middleware Integration
  • Develop, configure, and troubleshoot Robot Operating System 2 (ROS2) interfaces.
  • Ensure seamless communication and synchronisation between simulation environments and physical robotic systems.
  • Support simulation-to-hardware control mapping and system integration activities.
Automation Scripting
  • Develop modular and maintainable Python tools for simulation automation.
  • Automate Universal Scene Description (USD) asset import, scene generation, testing workflows, and domain randomisation processes.
  • Improve development efficiency through reusable automation frameworks.
Virtualisation DevOps
  • Build and maintain containerised simulation environments using Docker and related technologies.
  • Deploy and scale GPU-accelerated simulation workloads across local and cloud-based infrastructure.
  • Support continuous integration and deployment practices for simulation environments.
Sim-to-Real Enablement
  • Collaborate with hardware and controls teams to reduce the gap between simulated and real-world robot performance.
  • Perform system identification, sensor noise modelling, and simulation calibration.
  • Validate simulation accuracy through physical testing and performance benchmarking.
Education
  • Bachelor''s or Master''s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Robotics Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
Experience
  • 3 to 7 years of experience in robotics engineering, simulation platform development, robotic software engineering, or related fields.
Required Skills
  • Strong programming experience in Python.
  • Hands-on experience with NVIDIA Isaac Sim and/or Isaac Lab.
  • Experience with Robot Operating System 2 (ROS2).
  • Knowledge of reinforcement learning concepts and robotic simulation workflows.
  • Experience with Docker and containerised application deployment.
  • Understanding of robotic sensors, actuators, and control systems.
Preferred Skills
  • Experience with Isaac Gym and large-scale RL training.
  • Exposure to NVIDIA GR00T or robotics foundation models.
