Job summary

Smile Foundation seeks an Academic Facilitator (Shiksha Sahyogi) to support learning for students in Grades 6–9 through remedial education, assessments, mentoring, and community engagement. Qualifications

  • Graduate in Science or Mathematics (Mandatory).
  • Minimum 3–5 years of teaching experience with students of Grades 6–9.

  • Strong communication and planning skills; ability to develop others and engage stakeholders.
  • Attention to detail and ability to organize and document learning activities and outcomes.

Job Purpose

The Academic Facilitator (Shiksha Sahyogi) will support the academic development of students in Grades 6–9 through remedial education, foundational learning support, assessments, mentoring, and community engagement. The role aims to bridge learning gaps, strengthen grade-level competencies, and improve student retention through child-centric and activity-based learning approaches. The Academic Facilitator will work closely with children, parents, schools, and community stakeholders to create an enabling learning environment and support children in achieving their full potential.

Key Responsibilities
Academic Support and Classroom Facilitation
  • Conduct engaging and learner-centred academic sessions for students in Grades 6–9.
  • Prepare weekly and monthly lesson plans aligned with project objectives and curriculum requirements.
  • Provide foundational and remedial learning support to students based on their competency levels.
  • Group students according to learning levels and provide targeted support.
  • Use activity-based and experiential learning methodologies to strengthen conceptual understanding.
  • Provide individual mentoring and doubt-resolution support to students.
Assessment and Learning Tracking
  • Conduct baseline, periodic, and endline assessments to monitor students' learning progress.
  • Analyse student performance and maintain individual progress records.
  • Maintain student attendance, assessment records, and progress trackers.
Development of Teaching Learning Materials
  • Develop Teaching Learning Materials (TLMs), worksheets, activity kits, and classroom resources.
  • Design and adapt learning resources based on the needs of students.
Documentation and Reporting
  • Prepare and submit monthly reports, case studies, success stories, and project documentation.
  • Capture and share photographs and updates of classroom activities.
  • Maintain records and support project MIS requirements.
Community Engagement and Parent Participation
  • Conduct parent meetings and support community mobilisation activities to ensure regular attendance and retention.
  • Coordinate with schools, parents, and community stakeholders to strengthen children's participation and academic progress.
  • Facilitate awareness sessions on education, health, hygiene, child protection, gender sensitivity, and digital safety.
Project Activities and Capacity Building
  • Support the organisation of important days, events, and project activities for the holistic development of children.
  • Participate in orientation programmes, training sessions, and review meetings organised by the project.
Educational Qualification & Experience:
  • Graduate in Science or Mathematics (Mandatory)
  • Minimum 3–5 years of teaching experience with students of Grades 6–9.
  • Experience in remedial education, foundational learning, or community-based education programmes preferred.
  • Technical/professional knowledge and skills: Having achieved a satisfactory level of technical and professional skill or knowledge in position-related areas; keeping up with current developments and trends in areas of expertise.
  • Communication: Clearly conveying information and ideas through a variety of media to individuals or groups in a manner that engages the audience and helps them understand and retain the message. Able to give and take during a conversation in a balanced way, listening as well as speaking at appropriate intervals.
  • Planning and organizing: Establishing courses of action for self and others to ensure that work is completed efficiently.
  • Developing others: Planning and supporting the development of an individual’s skills and abilities so that they can fulfil current or future job/role responsibilities more effectively.
  • Attention to Detail: Pays close attention to information that is overlooked or taken for granted by others. Prefers to look beyond the obvious and does not accept situations or take information at face value. Scrutinizes how things go together, making sure components are indeed aligned and appropriately interrelated.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):
  • Improvement in students' foundational and grade-level competencies.
  • Timely completion of baseline, periodic, and endline assessments.
  • Student attendance and retention rate.
  • Number of TLMs and worksheets developed and utilised.
  • Parent meetings and community mobilisation activities conducted.
  • Timely submission of reports and documentation.
  • Improvement in students' learning outcomes and classroom participation.
  • Effective implementation of remedial and academic support interventions.
  • Coordination with parents, schools, and community stakeholders.
