Job summary

Smile Foundation invites applications for a STEM Facilitator to strengthen ATL/STEM learning in government schools under the Mission Education initiative. This field role involves classroom sessions, labs, and hands-on projects.

You will train teachers, mentor students, maintain lab inventories, and compile reports, with regular travel to assigned schools. A background in science/engineering and hands-on robotics or coding is preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s in Science/Engineering/CS/Math.
• 1.5–4 years of STEM facilitation or related experience.
• Experience with government school systems is an advantage.
• Strong ATL/STEM concept understanding and hands-on skills.
• Willingness to travel frequently to schools.

Project Overview

Smile Foundation’s Mission Education initiative aims to strengthen STEM learning and innovationmindsets among students in government and government‑aided schools through experiential andhands‑on learning facilitated via Tinker Labs / STEM Labs for Grades 6–10. This particular project focuses on ‘Activating Atal Tinkering Labs (ATLs) and will support students to develop 21st‑century competencies such as problem‑solving, creativity, critical thinking, and teamwork.

Role Purpose

The STEM Facilitator will support the implementation and monitoring of STEM and tinkering‑basedlearning across assigned schools. The role will involve conducting STEM sessions, supporting student and teacher engagement, facilitating innovation activities, and promoting effective utilisation of ATL/STEM infrastructure.

The incumbent will ensure timely implementation of project activities as per the Project Implementation Plan (PIP) and support regular reporting, documentation, data tracking, and coordination with the Project Coordinator and school‑level stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

1. STEM Program Implementation

• Conduct hands‑on, project‑based, and activity‑based STEM sessions in ATL/STEM labs.
• Facilitate STEM, tinkering, innovation, design thinking, and student project activities.
• Guide students in developing projects, prototypes, and participating in innovation challenges.
• Ensure implementation of planned activities as per the PIP and project timelines.
• Support effective utilisation of ATL/STEM labs, equipment, kits, and learning resources.

2. Teacher Support & Capacity Building

• Support teachers in adopting hands‑on and experiential STEM learning approaches.
• Demonstrate STEM activities and lab‑based teaching practices.
• Support teacher orientations, training sessions, and reflective learning activities.
• Provide regular academic handholding to teachers.
• Support the readiness, upkeep, and effective utilisation of ATL/STEM labs.
• Maintain basic lab, inventory, and usage records.
• Identify and mentor STEM Clubs / Innovation Teams.

4. Monitoring, Reporting & Documentation

• Monitor implementation and progress of project activities across assigned schools.
• Maintain attendance, activity, lab usage, and student participation records.
• Submit regular school visit and activity reports to the Project Coordinator.
• Document student innovations, success stories, case studies, photographs, and other project outcomes.
• Identify implementation challenges and coordinate with the Project Coordinator for timely resolution.
• Regular school visits and STEM sessions as per the project plan.
• Effective implementation of planned activities across assigned schools.
• Functional and effectively utilised ATL/STEM labs.
• Active STEM Clubs / Innovation Teams in assigned schools.
• Student participation in STEM and innovation events.
• Timely reporting, documentation, and progress tracking.

Experience & Qualifications-

• Bachelor’s / Master’s degree in Science, Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, or related field.
• Preferred: B.Tech/B.Sc. in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Computer Science, Electronics, Mechatronics, or related disciplines.
• 1.5–4 years of experience in STEM facilitation, ATL, robotics, science teaching, makerspaces, or related areas.
• Experience working with government school systems will be an added advantage.
• Strong understanding of ATL, STEM concepts and experiential learning.
• Hands‑on knowledge of robotics, IoT, coding, electronics, DIY kits, 3D printing, or related area.
• Ability to engage and mentor students and teachers.
• Strong communication, coordination, documentation, and reporting skills.
• Willingness to travel frequently to assigned schools.
• Field‑based role with regular visits to assigned schools and ATL/STEM labs.
• Travel across assigned districts/blocks.
• Participation in STEM events, fairs, exhibitions, and other project activities as required.
