Job summary

VOIS (Vodafone Intelligent Solutions) seeks an Ab Initio Data Engineer with strong Unix/Linux and Teradata SQL skills to design, develop and optimise ETL solutions at scale. You will work on production-grade data pipelines, ensuring performance, reliability and governance across Teradata environments and GCP basics.

With 4–8 years of experience aligned to a Deputy Manager band, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams in a global delivery context and contribute to operational excellence

• Hands-on Ab Initio ETL development experience.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain ETL workflows using Ab Initio tools (GDE, EME, Co>Operating System).
• Build, optimise and support data ingestion, transformation and extraction pipelines.
• Write Unix/Linux shell scripts for automation, scheduling and monitoring.
• Develop and optimise Teradata SQL, data models and performance tuning.
• Perform production support for ETL jobs and database queries.
• Collaborate with operations, infra and business teams on production issues and enhancements.
• Follow data quality, security, governance and compliance best practices.
• Provide release support, incident resolution and root-cause analysis.
• Create and maintain technical documentation for designs and workflows.

About This Role

We are seeking a skilled Ab Initio Data Engineer with strong hands‑on experience in Unix and Teradata, along with basic working knowledge of Google Cloud Platform (GCP). This role is responsible for designing, developing, optimising and supporting ETL solutions in large‑scale data processing environments, with a strong focus on performance, reliability and production stability.

What You’ll Do

• Design, develop and maintain ETL workflows using Ab Initio tools including GDE, EME and the Co>Operating System
• Build, optimise and support data ingestion, transformation and extraction pipelines
• Write and maintain Unix/Linux shell scripts for automation, scheduling and monitoring
• Develop, optimise and tune SQL queries and data models within Teradata environments
• Perform performance tuning and troubleshooting for ETL jobs and database queries
• Collaborate with operations, infrastructure and business teams to support production issues and deliver enhancements
• Follow best practices related to data quality, security, governance and compliance
• Provide support during releases, incident resolution and root cause analysis
• Create and maintain technical documentation covering designs, workflows and operational procedures

Who You Are

• You have strong hands‑on experience with Ab Initio ETL development
• You demonstrate good proficiency in Unix/Linux commands and shell scripting
• You bring solid experience in Teradata SQL, performance tuning and utilities
• You have a clear understanding of data warehousing concepts and ETL best practices
• You have experience working in production support environments with incident management
• You possess basic working knowledge of GCP services such as Google Cloud Storage (GCS), BigQuery and Compute Engine
• Exposure to cloud migration or hybrid data platforms is an advantage
• Familiarity with scheduling tools (such as Autosys or Control‑M) and Agile/Scrum ways of working is preferred
• You bring 4–8 years of relevant experience, aligned to a Deputy Manager band role
