Job summary

Hurma in India seeks an experienced 2D Artist & Animator Lead to guide a team of seven visual artists and ensure high-quality artwork for online slot games. You will own the artwork pipeline from concept to in-game integration and collaborate with developers to optimize assets.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience as a 2D Artist/Animator in gaming.
• Proven iGaming/slot game experience with UI/UX for slots.
• Previous leadership or mentoring roles.
• Proficiency in Photoshop, Illustrator and Spine.
• Strong color theory, composition and animation techniques.
• Knowledge of asset optimization for desktop/mobile games.
• Upper-Intermediate+ English for cross-functional teams.

Job description

We are seeking an experienced and creative 2D Artist & Animator Team Lead to guide and inspire our talented team of 7 visual artists and animators. In this role, you will play a pivotal part in shaping the visual identity and motion design of our high-performing online slot games.
You will combine hands-on artistic expertise with strong leadership skills, taking full ownership of the artwork pipeline from initial concept to final in-game integration.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience as a 2D Artist / Animator in the mobile or desktop gaming industry.
• Proven experience working on iGaming / Slot games (understanding of reel layouts, win celebrations, UI/UX specific to slots, and player engagement triggers).
• Previous leadership or mentorship experience (Lead, Senior Artist managing junior talent, or Art Lead).
• Advanced mastery of Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and Spine (or equivalent animation software).
• Solid foundation in color theory, composition, character design, lighting, and frame-by-frame/skeletal animation.
• Familiarity with particle effects and basic VFX principles for slot win states.
• Strong understanding of asset optimization and technical constraints for desktop/mobile slot games.
• Upper-Intermediate+ English (written and spoken) is mandatory to interact with cross-functional and international teams.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to articulate artistic choices to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor, and inspire a multidisciplinary team of seven 2D artists and animators.
• Conduct regular 1-on-1s, creative reviews, and constructive feedback sessions to foster growth and high performance.
• Manage workload distribution, task prioritization, and deadlines in collaboration with Project Managers and Product Owners.
• Build a collaborative, positive creative environment and drive high visual quality standards.
• Oversee the full lifecycle of art and animation production for slot games (symbols, characters, backgrounds, UI, paytables, win animations, visual effects).
• Set artistic standards and ensure visual consistency across all game assets.
• Create art guides, style references, and documentation for new game titles.
• Provide hands-on contribution to complex 2D artwork, spine/2D animations, and VFX when needed.
• Work closely with Game Developers to optimize assets for game engine performance (Spine or proprietary engines).
• Establish and optimize art production workflows, asset naming conventions, and export pipelines.
