Job summary

National Vehicle Distribution is seeking a skilled technician to maintain, inspect and repair Heavy Goods Vehicle trailers, ensuring operational reliability and compliance with safety standards.

You will perform preventative and corrective maintenance on key trailer systems, weld to high standards, diagnose wear and damage, and work independently with careful attention to IVA and DFT/RSA regulations. Strong communication and a full clean driving license are essential.

Qualifications

• HGV trailer mechanical maintenance experience.
• Excellent communication and team working skills.
• Determined and resilient, with the drive to complete tasks.
• Ideally experience with Wabco & Knorr Bremse braking.
• Ideally experience with BPW axles.
• Ideally experience with trailer electrical systems.
• Full clean driving licence – Class B.

Responsibilities

• Welding Specialisms: Perform high-standard MMA (stick) welding and MIG welding on both mild steel and aluminium components.
• Component Diagnostics: Inspect and diagnose wear or damage in critical moving parts, including pins, bushes, ram bosses, wear pads, chains, and rollers.
• Rust Prevention: Apply anti-corrosion treatments, primers, and protective coatings to all repaired and newly fabricated sections to prevent rust.
• Independent Working: Manage your own daily workload efficiently and complete fabrication tasks safely with minimal supervision.
• Quality Control: Use a sharp eye for detail to ensure all finishes, welds, and alignments meet strict workshop and regulatory safety standards.
• Ensure all custom fabrications and chassis modifications comply with IVA standards and Department for Transport / RSA regulations.
• Understanding of hydraulic systems

Role Summary

This role is for a skilled and dedicated technician responsible for the mechanical maintenance, inspection, and repair of Heavy Goods Vehicle (HGV) trailers. The technician ensures trailers are operational, compliant with safety standards, and performs preventative and corrective maintenance on key systems.

Key Responsibilities & Duties
