Job summary

National Vehicle Distribution in Ireland seeks a Hydraulic Technician to inspect, maintain, diagnose and repair complex hydraulic lifting systems on car-transport vehicles to ensure safety and efficiency.

You will perform diagnostics, repairs and preventive maintenance, troubleshoot PTO issues, calibrate deck pressures and uphold safety and regulatory standards in a hands-on role.

Qualifications

  • Strong ability to read hydraulic schematics and diagrams.
  • Experience with high-pressure fluid systems.
  • Proficient in using hydraulic pressure gauges.
  • Basic welding and fabrication skills.
  • Knowledge of commercial vehicle electronics.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnostics & repairs of hydraulic systems on multi-deck lifting gear.
  • Troubleshoot hydraulic system failures and replace damaged components.
  • Repair leaking cylinders and rams; replace high-pressure hoses.
  • Fix faulty control valves and diagnose PTO issues.
  • Conduct scheduled hydraulic safety inspections and maintain logs.
  • Calibrate deck pressure settings and test load safety devices.
  • Ensure compliance with lifting regulations and safety standards.
  • Test emergency stop mechanisms and verify load-holding valves.

  • Full Time - 06:00 to 14:30 (13:30 Friday) and 09:30 to 18:00 (17:00 Friday)

Job Summary

The Hydraulic Technician is responsible for inspecting, maintaining, diagnosing, and repairing the complex multi-deck hydraulic lifting and loading systems on car-transporting vehicles to ensure operational safety and efficiency.

Key Responsibilities
  • Diagnostics & Repairs

  • Troubleshoot hydraulic system failures.

  • Repair leaking cylinders and rams.

  • Replace damaged high-pressure hoses.

  • Fix faulty control valves.

  • Diagnose Power Take-Off (PTO) issues.

  • Routine Maintenance

  • Conduct scheduled hydraulic safety inspections.

  • Flush and replace hydraulic fluids.

  • Clean and change system filters.

  • Lubricate moving mechanical joints.

  • Calibrate deck pressure settings.

  • Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with lifting regulations.

  • Test emergency stop mechanisms.

  • Verify load-holding check valves work.

  • Maintain accurate service repair logs.

Requirements & Qualifications
  • Technical Skills

  • Mastery of hydraulic schematics and diagrams.

  • Expertise in high-pressure fluid systems.

  • Proficiency using hydraulic pressure gauges.

  • Basic welding and fabrication skills.

  • Knowledge of commercial vehicle electronics.

  • Experience & Education

  • Vocational qualification in mechanical engineering.

  • Minimum 2–3 years handling heavy hydraulics.

  • Direct experience with multi-deck car hauliers (e.g., Rolfo Belle, Kassborrher Lohr, Transporter Engineering).

  • Physical Demands

  • Ability to work at heights.

  • Capacity to lift to 25 kg.

  • Comfort working in outdoor weather.
