Job summary

SIG Susquehanna in Dublin is seeking a Low Latency Trading Systems Research Engineer to enhance trading technologies. Overview

As a Low Latency Trading Systems Research Engineer, you will be instrumental in driving enhancements and optimizations in how Susquehanna trades global markets in an extremely competitive environment.

This role engages close partnership with Traders, Trading and Quantitative Researchers, FPGA Developers, System and Network Engineers to continually analyze and optimize our trading systems, using data from lab experimentation, production data and your own experiences and intuitions. The work done has a direct impact on our trading business, and every single aspect of the environment is pulled apart and scrutinized, from physical cabling and fiber optics to exchange‑level protocol specifications.

What you will do
  • Work with the very latest innovative and cutting‑edge technologies used in financial trading.
  • Recreate complex low‑latency trading topologies and scenarios in our dedicated lab environment.
  • Apply critical thinking to challenging problems and collaborate with the team to solve them.
  • Work with stakeholders to identify and formulate lab testing scenarios.
  • Use the lab and develop tools to explore and test innovative trading scenarios and prove or disprove hypotheses.
  • Identify, recommend, implement and drive optimizations in the production trading environment based on testing results.
  • Analyze production trading and lab network data from many sources and formats.
  • Become an expert on all aspects of the low‑latency trading environment.
  • Lead testing automation efforts.
  • Collaborate with external vendors and companies on new products, features and technologies to keep SIG at the forefront of ultra‑low‑latency trading.
What we’re looking for
  • Highly motivated, meticulous, articulate and deeply curious about all aspects of technologies used in a trading environment.
  • Excellent software development, testing, troubleshooting and analysis skills with C/C++ and C#.
  • Extensive knowledge of computer internals, operating systems and networking.
  • Data analysis experience in Python using Jupyter Notebooks.
  • Python and PowerShell scripting experience.
Great if you also have
  • Experience in a low‑latency trading environment.
  • Practical knowledge of network protocols such as BGP, IGMP, PIM, Ethernet, IP, UDP, TCP, LLDP.
  • Experience using FPGA technologies in a low‑latency networking environment (Solarflare, kernel bypass, etc.).
  • Knowledge or experience of DC operations.
