Job summary

Coimisiún na Meán is seeking a Temporary Executive Officer - Media Development (Funding) to join the Funding Team within the Media Landscape Division. You will support journalism funding schemes, administer grant payments, and analyse data to inform funding decisions.

Role Purpose

Cpl are seeking a Temporary Executive Officer - Media Development (Funding) for our client Coimisiún na Meán. The successful candidate will be employed by Cpl on a 3-6 month temporary assignment working in Coimisiún na Meán, supporting the Media Landscape division.

About Coimisiún na Meán

Coimisiún na Meán is Ireland’s agency for developing and regulating a thriving, diverse, creative, safe and trusted media landscape.

Our organisation was established in March 2023, further to the provisions of the Online Safety and Media Regulation Act 2022.

As the independent media regulator, Coimisiún na Meán is responsible for regulating broadcasters, video-on-demand providers and online platforms established in Ireland. Our wide-reaching remit also includes supporting and developing the Irish media sector.

We have an Executive Chair and four Commissioners leading a team of over 200 staff across different functional areas.

About the Team/Division

The Funding Team is part of the Media Landscape Division and is responsible for administering media funding schemes that support the production and delivery of public interest journalism. Media Development is also part of Coimisiún na Meán’s Media Landscape Division. A key responsibility of the team is to oversee funding programmes and support the ongoing development of the wider media sector in Ireland. The team manages several funding schemes established following recommendations from the Future of Media Commission.

Key responsibilities
  • Support the delivery of journalism funding schemes, including assessing grant recipient contract deliverables and processing funding contracts.

  • Administer monthly grant payment runs and maintain accurate funding records.

  • Analyse scheme data and performance metrics and prepare presentations on findings.

  • Engage with stakeholders regarding complex contracting queries.

  • Provide oversight and day-to-day support to Clerical Officers.

Essential skills and experience
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including report writing and stakeholder engagement.

  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.

  • Ability to interpret complex information.

  • Proficiency with IT and willingness to learn new IT systems.

  • Strong clerical and administrative experience.

  • Ability to prioritise and work across several projects.

Desirable skills and experience
  • Experience with funding schemes, grants administration or similar process-based work.

  • Data analysis skills, including interpreting data and presenting findings clearly.

  • Financial experience or familiarity with financial systems.

  • Interest in journalism, news and current affairs.
