Job summary

Vertiv Group Corporation is seeking a Technical Trainer in Burnfoot to develop production staff, embed safety and quality, and drive excellence. You will design and deliver practical, hands‑on training for Busbar machinery, align plans to a formal Busbar Training Matrix and assess operator competency to enable progression.

You will coach operators, maintain training records, support inductions, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives such as DMAIC, 5S and Gemba.

Qualifications

  • Fully competent in operating Busbar machinery and processes.
  • Experience coaching and assessing workshop staff.
  • Strong understanding of safe working practices in manufacturing.
  • Clear, effective communication of technical concepts to varied skill levels.
  • Knowledge of maintenance, inspection, and regrinding of dies and tooling.
  • Desirable: experience in formal training or mentoring; knowledge of 5S and lean principles.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver practical, hands-on training across Busbar machinery and processes, safely and effectively.
  • Develop, implement and maintain structured training plans aligned to the Busbar Training Matrix.
  • Assess operator competency and support progression through grading structures.
  • Identify skills gaps and deliver targeted development plans to build a skilled workforce.
  • Coach, mentor and support operators to develop confidence and independence.
  • Deliver training on safe working practices, quality standards and SOPs.
  • Maintain training records and update the Busbar Training Matrix.
  • Support inductions and onboarding within the Busbar area.
  • Carry out routine inspection, maintenance, sharpening and regrinding of dies and tooling.
  • Monitor tooling condition and coordinate replacements; troubleshoot tooling issues.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives (DMAIC, 5S, Gemba) to improve utilisation and quality.

Job description

We are seeking a dedicated Technical Trainer to join our team at Burnfoot. This is a fantastic opportunity to play a central role in developing our production employees and ensure that every colleague is equipped to perform their role safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards.

You will be at the heart of ensuring that every employee in production has the skills and confidence to excel in their role. By embedding safety, quality, and efficiency into training, you will directly contribute to our culture of excellence and continuous improvement.

Key responsibilities:
  • Deliver practical, hands‑on training across the full range of Busbar machinery and processes, ensuring safe and effective operation.
  • Develop, implement and maintain structured training plans aligned to the Busbar Training Matrix.
  • Assess operator competency and support progression through the L1–L9 grading structure.
  • Identify skills gaps and deliver targeted development plans to build a highly skilled, multi-disciplined workforce.
  • Coach, mentor and support operators to develop confidence, capability and independence.
  • Deliver training on safe working practices, quality standards and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Maintain accurate training records and regularly update the Busbar Training Matrix.
  • Support new starter inductions and onboarding within the Busbar area.
  • Carry out routine inspection, maintenance, sharpening and regrinding of machine dies and tooling.
  • Monitor tooling condition, maintain preventative maintenance schedules and coordinate tooling replacements as required.
  • Troubleshoot tooling‑related production issues and implement effective corrective actions.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives, including DMAIC, 5S and Gemba activities, while identifying opportunities to improve machine utilisation, quality and operator capability.

Essential Skills, Qualifications/Experience:
  • Fully competent in the operation of Busbar machinery and processes.
  • Demonstrated competency across Busbar operations.
  • Experience in the maintenance, inspection, and regrinding of machine dies and tooling.
  • Ability to coach, instruct, and assess others in a workshop environment.
  • Strong understanding of safe working practices within a manufacturing environment.
  • Clear and effective communication skills, with the ability to explain technical processes to colleagues of all skill levels.
Desirable Skills, Qualifications/Experience:
  • Previous experience in a formal training or mentoring role.
  • Knowledge of 5S methodology and lean manufacturing principles.
  • Experience developing and maintaining training matrices and competency assessment frameworks.
  • Experience operating machinery.
