Job summary

Gaelvert Development in Dublin is seeking a Team Technical Lead to guide a backend engineering team delivering real-time APIs powering our products. This hands-on leadership role combines architecture design, coding, reviews, and mentoring to raise the team's technical performance.

You'll work with architects, product managers and engineers to ensure scalable, reliable systems, driving engineering excellence, robust testing, and timely delivery while fostering a culture of innovation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in CS or related field or equivalent practical experience.
• 7+ years of backend software engineering experience with leadership in Technical Lead or Staff Engineer roles.
• Experience building high-throughput, low-latency distributed systems and APIs.
• Strong background in event-driven architectures and production systems with uptime and performance requirements.
• Mentoring engineers and leading teams to high performance.
• Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration with stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Lead the technical delivery of a backend team and ensure on-time delivery and high quality.
• Remain hands-on in development: architecture, coding, reviews, and problem solving.
• Drive engineering excellence with best practices, testing, and continuous improvement.
• Ensure APIs meet latency, scalability, and reliability targets.
• Manage technical risks, dependencies and debt, including external data provider integrations.
• Collaborate with architects to align solutions with the engineering strategy.
• Coach and mentor engineers through guidance, knowledge sharing and feedback.
• Support recruitment and onboarding of new engineers.
• Work with cross-functional teams to deliver resilient, customer-focused solutions.

What you'll do

As a Team Technical Lead, you'll lead a high‑performing backend engineering team responsible for delivering the real‑time APIs that power our products and services. This is a hands‑on leadership role where you'll spend the majority of your time designing, building and improving software while providing technical direction and mentoring the team.

You'll work closely with architects, product managers, project managers and engineers to ensure solutions are scalable, reliable and delivered to a high engineering standard.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Leading the technical delivery of a team of backend engineers, ensuring projects are delivered on time and to a high standard.
• Remaining hands‑on in software development, contributing to architecture implementation, coding, code reviews and technical problem solving.
• Driving engineering excellence through best practices, high‑quality code, automated testing and continuous improvement.
• Ensuring our APIs meet performance, scalability and reliability expectations, including latency, accuracy and availability targets.
• Managing technical risks, dependencies and technical debt, particularly around integrations with external data providers.
• Collaborating with architects to implement technical solutions aligned with the wider engineering strategy.
• Coaching and mentoring engineers through technical guidance, knowledge sharing and regular feedback.
• Supporting recruitment, onboarding and the technical assessment of new engineers.
• Working closely with cross‑functional teams to deliver resilient, customer‑focused solutions while continuously improving our engineering practices.

What you'll bring

• We're looking for an experienced technical leader who enjoys solving complex engineering challenges while helping others grow. Experience within real‑time data platforms, sports data, feed aggregation, or other latency‑sensitive environments would be highly beneficial
• A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related discipline (or equivalent practical experience).
• 7+ years of backend software engineering experience, including several years in a Technical Lead, Staff Engineer or similar leadership role.
• Proven experience building and operating high‑throughput, low‑latency distributed systems and APIs.
• Strong experience working with event‑driven architectures and production systems with demanding uptime and performance requirements.
• A passion for mentoring engineers and creating high‑performing engineering teams.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate across engineering and business stakeholders.
• A proactive mindset focused on continuous improvement, engineering quality and delivery excellence.
