Job summary

K2 STRATEGIC is seeking a Technical Specialist to provide specialist technical support, training and oversight in a live data centre environment. You will ensure continuous 24/7/365 operation, plan and coordinate critical activities, and validate all maintenance documentation aligned with subcontractor schedules to support the operations team.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Maintain continuous uptime of critical systems through hands-on technical support and supervision.
  • Lead maintenance activities and ensure compliance via the DFM platform.
  • Coordinate maintenance and live activities across the data centre with operations teams.
  • Review RAMS and permits; manage work permits.
  • Oversee day-to-day operations and supervise contractors and vendors.
  • Deliver technical training to site staff and lead readiness drills.
  • Assist in creating and reviewing SOPs/EOPs/MOPs; participate in drills.
  • Maintain records of shift activity, work orders and performance via DFM/logs.
  • Promote health and safety compliance and PPE usage.
  • Support emergency response and commissioning works when required.

Job description

To provide specialist technical support, training, and oversight within a live critical environment, ensuring continuous 24/7/365 operational support across a production data centre facility. The Technical Specialist plays a key role in emergency response, system maintenance & staff training. Responsibilities include daily planning and coordination of critical activities, ensuring full visibility and coverage across the site. All maintenance-related documentation and vendor paperwork aligned with the approved annual subcontractor schedule must be prepared and validated in advance to support the operational team. The Technical Specialist is accountable for ensuring these processes are implemented consistently across multiple facilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain continuous uptime of critical systems through hands-on technical support and proactive supervision.
  • Lead scheduled and reactive maintenance activities; ensure full compliance via the DFM platform.
  • Coordinate ongoing maintenance and activities within the Data Centre for facilities. During your day you will have full overview & awareness of all activities and, in conjunction with operations teams, will prioritize these activities.
  • Review and approve subcontractor Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS); manage work permits.
  • Coordinate and oversee day-to-day operations and live activities across the facility.
  • Supervise contractors and vendors, ensuring adherence to site procedures and health & safety standards.
  • Deliver technical training to site staff and lead regular scenario-based "game day" readiness drills.
  • Assist in the creation and review of SOPs, EOPs, and MOPs; ensure team participation in operational drills.
  • Maintain accurate records of shift activity, work orders, and system performance via DFM and logs.
  • Actively promote health and safety compliance; enforce the use of PPE and elevate any safety concerns.
  • Support emergency response efforts and commissioning works where required.

Skills & Qualifications
  • Relevant trade qualification (e.g. qualified Electrician) or degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Strong electrical background, demonstrable experience with UPS systems, MV/LV distribution, standby generators, and SCADA/BMS platforms.
  • You must be flexible in your working patterns to support requirements dictated by the rhythm of the business & operational demands.
  • Good working ability on Microsoft Office Products, in particular Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint
  • Committed to the delivery of excellent customer service and client facing discussions with clear, confident communication under pressure while dealing with stakeholders and customers.
  • Excellent fault diagnosis and problem-solving skills on live critical plant.
  • Strong planning and organisational ability, including PPM scheduling and works coordination.
  • Excellent report writing and documentation skills.
  • Good working ability with Microsoft Office products, in particular Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Proven experience working in live data centres or mission-critical facilities.
  • Experience with PPM maintenance strategy and End of Life / asset lifecycle planning.
  • HV/MV switching authorisation or willingness to obtain (e.g. Authorised Person / Senior Authorised Person).
  • Familiarity with CMMS platforms and change management processes (e.g. SOPs/EOPs).
