A little more about your role…

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced and ambitious Technical Director or Director to join and develop our Transport & Mobility Planning team in Ireland.

WSP deliver a wide range of transport planning projects for our clients, as well as an extensive portfolio of multi-disciplinary and cross-sector services, including (but not limited to): active travel solutions; public transport network planning; scheme development and appraisal; business case development and Government funding applications for all types of transport schemes; economic appraisal; carbon appraisal and management; consultation and engagement and transport strategy and policy development.

We are continuing to grow across Ireland, and this role will play a pivotal part in shaping the future of our Transport & Mobility business. Working closely with our leadership team, you will be responsible for driving growth, strengthening client relationships, expanding our market presence, and leading the delivery of some of Ireland's most significant and complex transport planning commissions.

This is a highly strategic leadership role, offering the opportunity to influence the direction of our business, build and develop high-performing teams, and contribute to the delivery of sustainable transport solutions that make a positive impact on communities across Ireland.

The primary focus of this role is on Ireland, however there will also be the opportunity to get involved in projects across the United Kingdom and Europe – including working with our virtual teams in Business Case Advisory, Net Zero, Future of Mobility and Freight.

Our Transport Planning Team sits within the wider UK & Ireland Transport & Mobility Planning business. Our team works closely alongside our virtual teams in Net Zero, Future Mobility and Freight, as well as multidisciplinary colleagues in complimentary teams - including development planning, highways and environment teams providing opportunities of collaboration in UK, Europe and beyond.

Key responsibilities will include:
  • Providing strategic leadership for the Transport Planning business in Ireland, supporting the development and delivery of our growth ambitions.
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with key clients, industry partners and stakeholders, identifying opportunities to grow our market share and service offering.
  • Leading business development activities, including winning major commissions, shaping proposals and securing framework appointments.
  • Acting as a trusted advisor to clients, providing technical and strategic guidance on complex transport planning and mobility challenges.
  • Leading the successful delivery of high-profile transport planning, modelling and multidisciplinary infrastructure projects.
  • Working collaboratively with leaders across Ireland, the UK and internationally to drive innovation, share best practice and strengthen WSP's market position.
  • Growing and developing a high-performing local team through mentoring, coaching and creating opportunities for career progression.
  • Raising WSP's profile across the sector through industry engagement, conference participation, thought leadership and professional networks.
  • Playing a key leadership role across WSP's four pillars: People, Clients & Growth, Operations and Technical Excellence.
What we will be looking for you to demonstrate…
  • A strong track record of leading and growing transport planning businesses, teams or service lines within Ireland.
  • Extensive experience delivering complex and high-profile transport planning projects, including elements of appraisal, business case and transport modelling
  • Well-established relationships with key transport sector clients and stakeholders across Ireland, including organisations such as TII, NTA, local authorities and government bodies.
  • A proven ability to win work, develop client relationships and contribute significantly to business growth.
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary teams and delivering projects across a range of sectors and clients.
  • Strategic thinking, commercial awareness and the ability to identify market opportunities and translate them into successful outcomes.
  • Deep knowledge of Irish transport planning policy, transport investment processes and project development frameworks.
  • Strong communication, stakeholder management and influencing skills, with the ability to engage confidently at executive and board level.
  • A passion for developing people, fostering an inclusive culture and enabling teams to achieve their full potential.
  • A respected industry profile, with a commitment to representing WSP through professional institutions, industry forums and client engagement activities.
