Job summary

Corlann – West Region in Galway invites applications for a Permanent Full‑Time Team Leader (SCL or CNM1 grade). The role focuses on day‑to‑day management of a community-based service delivering person-centred support to adults with intellectual disabilities.

The successful candidate will lead a staff team, ensure high-quality service delivery, and demonstrate strong leadership, planning, and communication skills.

Qualifications

  • A relevant 3rd level qualification in Social Care or Health Sector (e.g. Nursing qualification) and be registered or eligible for registration with CORU or Social Care Workers Register (CORU).
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience working with people with intellectual disability.
  • Experience managing and supervising a staff team and knowledge of current policy and legislation relevant to intellectual disability services.
  • Demonstrated leadership, management and planning skills with ability to set, implement and review goals.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally, and to work in a team with a person-centred philosophy.
  • Full clean manual driving licence and access to a car is essential.

Responsibilities

  • Lead day-to-day management of the service at a local level to ensure a person-centred service.
  • Provide leadership and supervision to staff and ensure service delivery aligns with core values.
  • Manage and review service plans and life outcomes for individuals using the service.
  • Ensure compliance with current policies and legislation relevant to intellectual disability services.
  • Promote dignity, respect, and meaningful social roles for people using the service.
  • Roster/flexibility to cover a 7-day duty roster and respond to service needs.

Location

The BEO Services is a community based, person centred service focussing on the needs and abilities of adults with intellectual disabilities. The vision of the service is to support people with intellectual disabilities to achieve a full and valued life in their community. We continually review the way in which we support people in line with best practice internationally. Our focus going forward is to form a relationship/partnership with individuals and their family, supporting them to plan their own service. We wish to create opportunities for people who use our service to have valued social roles in their communities and to have the chance to form real friendships. The Role

The Team Leader will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the service and will provide leadership and supervision at a local level, ensuring the service delivered is person centred.

It is the Team Leader’s responsibility to ensure that the life of each person reflects the organisation’s core values and the personal outcome measures.

The successful candidate will initially be assigned to a residential service in a local community; however this work location is subject to change in accordance with service needs.

Reporting/Responsible To

Service Coordinator/Area manager

Qualifications/Experience/Skills
  • Ø A relevant 3rd level qualification in the Social Care or Health Sector e.g. Nursing qualification and current Live Register Certificate from NMBI or Social Care qualification and be registered in the Social Care Workers Register maintained by the Social Care Workers Registration Board - CORU or Be eligible under the Section 91 (existing practitioner) route for registration in the Social Care Workers Register maintained by the Social Care Workers Registration Board -CORU (evidence of application status is necessary)
  • Ø The successful candidate will have a minimum of 3 years experience of working with people with an intellectual disability. They will also have experience of behaviours that challenge and complex needs. Experience in goal setting and programme implementation is essential.
  • Ø The successful candidate must have experience of managing and supervising a staff team and be up to date with current policy and legislation relevant to intellectual disability services.
  • Ø Candidates must demonstrate strong leadership, management and planning skills as well as the ability to set goals, implement and review.
  • Ø Candidates must have the ability to exercise good judgement, discretion and confidentiality, to communicate effectively in both written and verbal forms and co-operate in a team environment with a person-centred philosophy.
  • Ø The successful candidate will have evidence of and be committed to Continued Professional and Personal Development.
  • Ø A full clean manual Driving Licence, which qualifies you to drive manual transmission vehicles on Irish Roads and use of your own car is an essential requirement.
Working Hours

Contracted hours will depend on the grade of the successful candidate - i.e. 78 hours a fortnight (SCL grade) or 75 hours a fortnight (CNM1 grade) rostered flexibly on a 7 day duty roster.

The Team leader will work as a frontline member of the team with protected time to carry out specific team leader duties.

In addition, a sleep-in and/or night duty commitment may be a requirement of posts in residential services for which the appropriate allowance will be paid

Corlann’s model of service is based on Personal Outcome Measures requiring employees to be flexible in their working hours to provide a quality service delivery for each individual.

Annual Leave

Leave will be granted according to the agreed leave assigned to the grade of the successful candidates i.e. Social Care Leader or CNM1. Annual leave must be planned with the Area Manager / Service Coordinator to ensure appropriate and adequate cover is provided for the service.

Remuneration

Based on the salary scale attached to the grade of the successful candidates i.e. Social Care Leader or CNM1.

Tenure

This position is permanent full-time and pensionable

Probation

A probationary period of nine months from the date of appointment applies to the post. The employment may be terminated at any time during the probationary period should the employer find that the appointee is unsuitable to continue employment. The probation period may be extended at the Employer’s discretion.
