Corlann – West Region seeks two permanent full-time Staff Nurse/Enhanced Nurse for the Children’s Services in Roscommon. The posts support Spraoi Children’s Respite Service, providing care for children up to 18 with diverse needs, including complex medical needs.

PERMANENT FULL TIME STAFF NURSE/ENHANCED NURSE X2
CHILDREN’S SERVICES, ROSCOMMON CHILDREN’S SERVICES

A panel may be formed as a result of this process from which subsequent Staff Nurse/Enhanced Nurse appointments within the Children’s Services may be made over the next 6 months.

Location:

This post is primarily located in Spraoi Children’s Respite Service. Spraoi provides a respite service to children from 6 years of age up to 18 years of age who have a wide range of needs including those with Physical disability, complex medical needs, Autism and behavioural needs. Candidates will be required to be completely flexible in this position and will be required to work a variety of hours including day and night duty hours.

The Role:

To support the implementation of children’s individualised developmental and educational programmes and work together with the multidisciplinary and staff teams in ensuring the maximum benefit of the programme for the children. To provide clinical nursing skills in supporting children with complex needs. To demonstrate and maintain the highest quality of nursing practice and apply his/ her skills to ensure the developmental, learning, physical, social, and emotional needs of the children in his/ her care are addressed at all times. Be an informed resource for educating and supporting care assistants and family members.

Team Leader/ Children’s Services Co-ordinator/ Sector Manager.

Qualifications/Experience:
  • A current Live Register Certificate from the NMBI (An Bord Altranais). A RNID qualification is highly desirable.
  • Candidates must have a minimum of six months experience of working with children or in an Intellectual Disability setting.
  • A full clean manual Driving Licence, which qualifies you to drive manual transmission vehicles on Irish Roads is an essential requirement.
  • Fluency in verbal and written English is an essential requirement of this post.
  • Basic IT skills are also desirable.

Working Hours:

75 hours per fortnight based on a 7-day/night duty roster. The successful candidate will be required to work days, evenings, weekends, public holidays and night duty to meet service needs. The Corlann model of service is based on Personal Outcome Measures requiring employees to be flexible in their working hours to provide a quality service delivery for each individual.

Annual Leave:

24 days pro rata per annum. Appropriate service-related leave will be granted after 5 and 10 years’ service respectively.

Remuneration:

Department of Health salary scales as at 01/06/2026 apply:

  • Staff Nurse – € 38,166 x 12 increments - € 54,956 per annum (pro-rata for part-time). Long Service Increment € 56,592 per annum (pro-rata for part-time) is granted after 3 years on the maximum of the scale.
  • Enhanced Nurse – € 45,202 x 7 increments - € 56,762 per annum (pro-rata for part-time). Long Service Increment € 58,424 per annum (pro-rata for part-time) is granted after 3 years on the maximum of the scale.
  • As per HSE HR Circular 022/2019 – Nursing and Midwifery - the Enhanced Nurse / Midwife Practice Contract https://www.hse.ie/eng/staff/resources/hr-circulars/hr-circular-022-2019-re-enhanced-nurse-midwife-contract.pdf; once a staff nurse reaches point 4 on the Staff Nurse salary scale, they become eligible to apply for the role of Enhanced Nurse. Any Staff Nurse who wishes to avail of the Enhanced Nurse role will have to submit an application and also meet the qualifying criteria.

Salary quoted is based on a 37.5 hour working week. The successful candidate will be granted incremental credit subject to satisfactory verification of previous relevant nursing service. Additional payments will be made for weekends, public holidays, and sleep-ins and night duty when worked. A location allowance of €2,637 per annum (pro-rata for part-time) will also be paid when assigned to services where 75% of the persons supported have a diagnosis of severe/profound intellectual disability.

Tenure:

The posts are permanent, full time and pensionable.

Probation:

A probationary period of nine months from the date of appointment applies to the post. The employment may be terminated at any time during the probationary period should the employer find that the appointee is unsuitable to continue employment. The probation period may be extended at the Employer’s discretion.
