Job summary

Natus Medical Incorporated in Gort, Co. Galway, Ireland, is seeking an early‑career Systems Mechanical Research Engineer to join our R&D team.

You will work on researching and developing next‑generation neurodiagnostic and medical device technologies that improve patient outcomes worldwide. You will design, prototype, test, and analyze mechanical and electromechanical systems, collaborating with cross‑functional teams to translate user needs into feasible engineering solutions in a fast‑paced

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
• 0–3 years of engineering experience including internships, research projects or co‑op placements.
• Strong understanding of mechanical design principles, materials, tolerance analysis and manufacturing processes.
• Experience using 3D CAD software such as SolidWorks or Creo; knowledge of electromechanical systems and embedded hardware integration.

Responsibilities

• Conducting mechanical and electromechanical feasibility studies for innovative product concepts.
• Designing, building, and testing prototypes to evaluate technical solutions.
• Supporting system‑level design activities across mechanical, electrical, software, usability, and manufacturing disciplines.
• Performing engineering analysis, experimentation, troubleshooting, and root cause investigations.
• Evaluating materials, components, sensors, actuators, and electromechanical subsystems.
• Developing and executing engineering test plans and documenting findings and recommendations.
• Collaborating with cross‑functional teams to translate user and business needs into practical engineering solutions.
• Supporting product architecture decisions through testing, analysis, and data‑driven recommendations.
• Participating in design reviews, risk assessments, and technical evaluations throughout product development.

What You'll Do

As a Systems Mechanical Research Engineer, you will be involved in the early‑stage research and development of new products and technologies, including:

Essential Requirements

What We’re Looking For

• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline
• 0-3 years of engineering experience, including internships, research projects, or co‑op placements
• Strong understanding of:
• Mechanical design principles
• Engineering materials
• Tolerance analysis
• Manufacturing processes
• Experience using 3D CAD software such as SolidWorks, Creo, or similar
• Knowledge of electromechanical systems including sensors, motors, batteries, connectors, and embedded hardware integration
• Hands‑on experience with prototype development, laboratory testing, and troubleshooting
• Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and communication skills
• Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary engineering teams

Desirable Experience

• Medical device, wearable technology, consumer electronics, or other regulated industry experience
• Exposure to systems engineering and product architecture development
• Familiarity with design controls, risk management, and verification testing
• Experience with rapid prototyping, test fixture design, and engineering experimentation
• Ability to work independently on open-ended technical challenges
