Job summary

Depaul Ireland invites graduates to join its Support Worker Graduate Programme, a 12-month entry into frontline homelessness services. You will be part of a multi-disciplined team using holistic approaches, working across a 7-day rota to support residents with dignity and empowerment.

Throughout the programme you will gain hands-on experience in key worker sessions, personal budgeting support, and project administration, culminating in an end of year presentation.

Qualifications

  • Graduate qualifications in social care or related field are preferred.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Comfort with navigating basic computer systems.
  • Ability to work in a team and under sometimes challenging conditions.
  • Willingness to work shifts across a 7-day rota.
  • Understanding of homelessness issues and related service supports.

Responsibilities

  • Encourage and support service users to develop skills in managing their daily living.
  • Ensure the service area remains tidy and hygienic, including communal spaces.
  • Prompt residents to take responsibility for their own environment.
  • Attend and participate in key worker sessions with service users.
  • Assist residents with personal monies and service charge payments where necessary.
  • Carry out project administration tasks such as petty cash, statistics, invoices, and record keeping.

Job description

ThisSupport Worker-Graduate Programme position offers a fantastic opportunity to grow your professional skills and make a difference. The Support Worker will be a member of a multi-disciplined team using holistic approaches to support Depaul service users. Working within the principle of harm reduction where residents receive a high degree of care, support and dignity, Depaul has a commitment to service user participation and to empowering residents to manage their own lives.

This role works across a 7-day week rota.

At the end of the twelve-month programme graduates will be able to:

  • To work as a member of a multi-disciplined team in the best interests of the residents and report to team
  • To encourage and support service users to develop skills in managing their daily living.
  • Attend and participate in key worker sessions with service users when required
  • Provide an end of year presentation on time in Services.
Key Area of Responsibility
  • To encourage and support service users to develop skills in managing their daily living.
  • In conjunction with residents and the rest of the team to ensure that the service is kept to a good standard of tidiness, cleanliness and hygiene including communal areas
  • Encouraging service users to take responsibility for maintaining their own environment.
  • Observe and attend key worker sessions with service users when required
  • In conjunction with the project team, to assist residents with personal monies, service charge payments, etc. where necessary.
  • Carry out project administration tasks such as upkeep of petty cash, project statistics, invoices, record keeping, Service User’s files, OTIS, IR and AR completion etc.
  • To ensure that Health and Safety standards are met within the project in accordance with Depaul’s Health and Safety policy and the project's Safety Statement.
  • To attend and participate in team meetings and staff team days.
  • To participate in ongoing graduate programmes and events
Personal Experience and Requirements
  • Qualification in the Social Care field- Social Care, Psychology, Social Science, Criminology or Community Development
  • Process an understanding of why people become homeless and the issues they present with, understanding what supports can be offered in homeless services to service users with complex support needs
  • Be a good communicator and computer literate
  • Knowledge and understanding of Depaul vision mission and values.
  • Ability to work shifts
  • Relevant experience within the Community and Voluntary sector
