Job summary

Positive Futures in Ireland is seeking a dedicated Support Worker to assist people with learning disabilities, autism or brain injury to live independently and exercise real choice. No formal qualifications required beyond kindness and patience; induction provided.

You’ll help with daily living, personal care, money and community access, always upholding dignity, safety and rights. Full training and ongoing support from a dedicated team are offered.

Qualifications

• Minimum 6 months experience providing paid or voluntary care or support.
• Full, valid driving licence (IRL/UK/EU/EEA) required.
• Ability to work with people with learning disabilities, autism or brain injury is essential.

Support Worker

Support work is an impactful job. It's the reason people get to live life their way.

Join Positive Futures as a Support Worker and help people with a learning disability, acquired brain injury or autism to live independently, and to have real choice and control over their own lives. You don't need formal qualifications or experience for this role, just kindness, patience, and a sense of fun.

You'll get to know the person you're supporting properly: their goals, their routines, what independence looks like for them. From there, you'll support them with everything from daily living skills and personal care, to getting out into their community, keeping in touch with the people who matter to them, and speaking up for themselves.

• Genuine independence, genuine impact: Help people manage their homes, their finances, their health and their social lives, all in a way that puts their choices first.

About the role

Every day looks a little different, because every person you support is different too.

As a Support Worker, you'll form a positive relationship with the person you support, always maintaining appropriate professional boundaries with them and their families. You'll help them look after their home, manage their money and medication as independently as possible, and get the right support from other services when they need it, whether that's a GP, a social worker, or an advocate.

You'll support people to stay safe and healthy in every part of their life, including personal care where it's needed, always treating people with dignity and respect. You'll help them get out into their community, stay connected to the people who matter to them, and speak up for themselves, seeking advocacy support where it's needed rather than deciding things for them.

You'll also act as a role model for other staff and volunteers, sharing what you learn and helping new colleagues find their feet. Accurate record keeping (incidents, risk assessments, communication logs) is part of the job too, using our usual digital systems.

Required Criteria

• Minimum 6 months experience providing paid or voluntary care or support for someone.
• Full, valid IRL/UK/EU/EEA driving licence to meet the requirements of the post.

Desired Criteria

• Previous experience of supporting someone with autism
• Recognised Level 5 award relevant to the role
• Relevant third level qualification at degree level i.e. social work, psychology, and/or allied health.
• Proficiency in using standard office IT applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
• Post-graduate qualification relevant to the role
