PharmacyStore Ireland is seeking a Supervising Pharmacist to lead a busy community pharmacy. Reporting to the Operations Manager, you will ensure high standards of patient care, compliance with PSI guidelines, and robust pharmacy team development in a patient-centric environment.

You will oversee dispensing accuracy, CPD for staff, and safe, compliant operations, while maintaining strong relationships with suppliers and the local community.

Qualifications

  • Supervising Pharmacist experience in a busy Community pharmacy desirable.
  • May suit a pharmacist with at least 3 years experience looking for career progression.
  • PSI Registration is mandatory.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure PSI and HSE standards are followed in all activities.
  • Provide patient consulting and counselling to customers.
  • Maintain dispensing records and quality checking systems.
  • Develop and train the Pharmacy Team to deliver high-quality patient services.
  • Ensure medicines are sourced from authorized suppliers and stored correctly.

A Supervising Pharmacist in PharmacyStore is a key member of the team and is the primary person responsible within the Pharmacy for providing excellent customer and patient care aligned with the requirements of the PSI. Job Title: Supervising Pharmacist

Reporting to: Operations Manager

Summary of Responsibilities

Professional Practice
  • Ensures that the Pharmacy has the appropriate controls in place governing the accessibility of prescription and non-prescription medicines.
  • Ensures strict adherence to all PSI and HSE standards and protocols.

Operates as per the Code of Conduct outlined by the Pharmaceutical Society of Ireland (PSI) and ensures that the Pharmacy Team are compliant to said Code of Conduct.

Takes ownership for appropriate CPD and ensures CPD for all Dispensing Staff is aligned with PSI requirements.

  • Responsible for the pharmacy ethical and legal decision making aligned with PSI requirements.

The Supervising Pharmacist must ensure that the clear, structured processes and procedures are in place for dispensing activity including quality assured safety checking systems are updated and maintained with all required records.

Supply of Medicines

Ensures that the production, preparation and supply of all medicinal products is completed to the appropriate standards and compliant with PSI requirements.

Takes ownership for the accuracy of the dispensing process by monitoring, reviewing and taking appropriate action to minimize/eliminate errors.

Partners with the Duty Manager(s) and the Buyer to ensure that all products are sourced from authorised suppliers and are authorised for supply.

  • Segregate any returned, unwanted or out of date product and ensure it's stored in a secured designated area.
  • Ensure any medicinal product held is maintained in a manner that is in accordance with its authorisation and with provisions to maintain quality of the product.
Patient Care

Provides and supports patient consulting and counselling as required ensuring the customer/patient health & wellbeing is prioritised at all times.

Role modelling and fostering team behaviour that shows our customers that they are our highest priority.

Listening to our customers, understanding what would improve our service and dealing with any customer complaints in a timely and professional manner.

  • Building a strong working relationship with the Duty Manager(s) and all team members in the pharmacy to ensure a seamless and consistent delivery of service to our customers.
  • Carries out reviews, audits and risk assessments to protect patient and public safety. Drives corrective action plans and improvements resulting from such audits and assessments.
Developing the Pharmacy Team
  • Actively supports the development, training and education of the Pharmacy Team building capability to enable the efficient and effective delivery of patient services.
  • Partner with the Duty Manager(s) to ensure that all pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, other employees in the pharmacy are qualified, trained, competent and fit to perform the functions assigned to them.

Provide input on the team and their performance to the Duty Manager(s) suggesting areas for development and training to meet the needs of the store and the business overall.

Works with all team members ensuring and takes ownership for updating team members on any compliance requirements that may be relevant to their role.

Integrates as part of the team and is a true team player providing support where and as needed.

Organisation & Management

Understands the financial impact of decisions taken and strives to drive operational efficiency across all areas of the business particularly dispensing.

Takes ownership for ensuring the required policies and procedures, as PSI guidelines are in place, documented and up to date at all times aligned with compliance requirements.
