Job summary

Fivetran + dbt Labs is looking for a Staff Software Engineer to join our dbt Platform Services teams in Ireland. In this role you will create and maintain stable, scalable services foundational to the dbt platform cloud product, and redesign external APIs to power improved user experiences.

You’ll join a collaborative team and, as a Staff Engineer, will mentor junior engineers, partner with product, security, and QA, and help drive security‑first architecture across multiple teams.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience as a software engineer developing SaaS platforms and applications at scale.
• Proficiency with backend languages and frameworks such as Python, Go, Rust, django, Node.js, Java, Spring.
• Strong understanding of API design, system architecture, and database management.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain full stack applications that scale with our growing customer base.
• Lead technical architecture discussions, ensuring the platform is performant, maintainable, and secure.
• Tackle ambiguous, open-ended problems with strategic thinking, balancing technical constraints with user needs and product goals.
• Build services, APIs, and experiences that support user delight, quality, high availability and performance.
• Work closely with Product, Design, Operations, and Security teams to deliver well‑architected solutions.
• Define and drive best practices in testing, observability, and system reliability.
• Mentor engineers across the company, fostering technical growth and collaboration.
• Champion a culture of technical excellence and innovation, influencing engineering direction across multiple teams or domains.

About the Role

Fivetran + dbt Labs is looking for a Staff Software Engineer to join our dbt Platform Services teams. In this role you can expect to create and maintain stable, scalable services that are foundational to the dbt platform cloud product, based off solid architectural principles. We’re also driving forward the next evolution of the dbt platform by redesigning our external APIs to power improved user experiences. From rethinking our core data model and entities, to scaling our APIs accessing state that power hundreds of thousands of dbt run executions a day, you’ll be working on some of the most cross‑cutting and high‑scale work at dbt Labs today.

You’ll be joining a collaborative team of engineers; and as aStaff Engineer on the team, you will prioritize and tackle problems as they arise, working iteratively with product management, security and QA to deliver a great experience for our dbt Cloud administrators and end users.

Today we serve some of the largest data‑driven organizations in the world, enabling them to make decisions based on the knowledge at the core of their business. Your work directly impacts dbt Lab’s mission by expanding the organizations we serve and the data practitioners we reach. You will have an opportunity to flex into a security mindset while bringing your software architecture and programming skills. This is a full‑time position based in Ireland.
