Job summary

Bon Secours Health System in Limerick is recruiting a Registered General Nurse for the Endoscopy Procedure Rooms. You will deliver high-quality, patient-centred care during endoscopic and flexible cystoscopy procedures, working with the multidisciplinary team to ensure safety and a positive patient experience.

Qualifications

• Registered Nurse with current NMBI registration or eligible for registration.
• Minimum 1 year post-registration experience in acute care.
• Desirable experience in Endoscopy/Flexible cystoscopy procedures.

Responsibilities

• Deliver safe and high-quality care to patients during endoscopic and flexible cystoscopy procedures.
• Undertake clinical assessment and patient management within the agreed pathway.
• Highlight concerns to the Consultant/Anaesthetist/Senior Nursing management as appropriate.
• Ensure comprehensive documentation of patient information before and after the procedure.
• Promote patient-focused care in collaboration with health agencies.
• Prepare patients for procedures, ensuring they are fully informed and addressing concerns.
• Demonstrate infection control practices.
• Educate patients and families as required when needs are identified.
• Carry out nursing care to the highest standard and use equipment safely.
• Report malfunctions promptly and contribute to safe emergency responses.
• Assist in ordering supplies and maintaining a safe clinical environment.

Staff Nurse – Endoscopy Procedure Room

Full-time/Part-time hours considered (37.5 hours per week) | Permanent

The Purpose of This Role

The Registered General Nurse in the Endoscopy Procedure Rooms will be responsible for the delivery of high-quality, patient-centred care during endoscopic and flexible cystoscopy procedures, ensuring patient safety, comfort, and optimal outcomes. They will collaborate closely with the multidisciplinary team, including nurse managers and anaesthetists, to ensure smooth operation of the department and a seamless patient experience. The Registered General Nurse will monitor patient outcomes and implement evidence-based practices to enhance patient care within the procedural endoscopy unit.

Qualifications

• Be registered, or be eligible for registration, in the General Nurse Division of the Register of Nurses kept by the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI)

Experience

• The candidate must have a minimum of one-year post-registration experience in acute care nursing.
• Evidence of continuous professional development.
• Desirable previous nursing experience working in Endoscopy/Flexible Cystoscopy procedures.

Key Responsibilities

• Be responsible for delivering safe and high quality care to patients throughout endoscopic and flexible cystoscopy procedures.
• Undertake clinical assessment and management of patients within the agreed pathway where appropriate.
• Highlight and discuss any concerns with the Consultant/Anaesthetist/Senior Nursing management as appropriate.
• Ensure comprehensive documentation of the patient’s information before and after the procedure.
• Promote patient focused approach to care in collaboration with all relevant health agencies.
• Prepare patients for procedures, ensuring they are fully informed about their treatment and addressing any concerns they may have.
• Demonstrate safe and effective infection control practices.
• Educate patients and their families/carer as required when a need is identified.
• Be familiar with the specific care requirements for the clinical speciality.
• Carry out nursing care to the highest possible standard relevant to the speciality and in line with hospital policies and clinical guidelines.
• Be familiar with and demonstrate understanding of how to use equipment safely and effectively.
• Report any malfunctions in a timely manner.
• Function efficiently and effectively in an emergency situation.
• Assist with ordering of supplies as required and ensure the appropriate and efficient use of supplies is made.
• Maintain a safe clinical environment.
• Assist in establishing and monitoring care protocols/pathways.
• Ensure patient confidentiality at all times.
• Contribute to the setting and monitoring of measurable standards of care and be accountable for maintaining standards.
• Maintain awareness of national, professional and local quality issues relevant to the delivery of nursing services, for example, JCI, HIQA and JAG.
