Hi I’m Abhik, Ashby’s Co‑Founder and VP of Engineering. This role is close to my heart because I can both design and code. I created Design Engineering as a formal role and department that works closely with me. The first hire was over five years ago and the team is growing from five to over ten in the next year.

This role expects you to design and code. It is not just a Frontend Engineer or a Designer looking to prototype. Combining excellence in both is where magic happens.

Responsibilities

• Design and code system‑wide solutions that impact over 100,000 weekly active users.
• Redesign the mobile web app by interviewing customers, wire‑framing new flows, implementing the design system, and turning wireframes into a polished UI.
• Build flexible, composable components in the design system that enable other engineers to create consistent user interfaces.
• Improve the information hierarchy and scannability of product views such as candidate assessments, helping recruiters parse data quickly.
• Collaborate with Product Engineering to shape UI/UX for a powerful and complex product that adapts to unique workflows.
• Ship features rapidly, iterate based on user feedback, and maintain a high visual standard.
• Own end‑to‑end design system work and drive visual direction across new and existing features.

Qualifications (Add level that fits your experience)

• Junior Design Engineer – No more than 2 years of industry experience as a designer or engineer. Showcase projects with at least a couple of users that demonstrate visual taste and talent in UI/UX and engineering.
• Design Engineer (Mid / Senior) – 2+ years of continuous experience as an engineer or designer. Proficient in both design and engineering; exceptional in at least one discipline. Experience designing products and shipping code to hundreds of users.
• Staff Design Engineer – Professional experience in design engineering, major contributions to a design system, and iterative design and implementation for hundreds of users.

We build talent acquisition software that enables recruiters to schedule interviews faster, track interviewer quality, and automate repetitive tasks. Our product serves over 100,000 weekly active users and partners with customers such as Notion, Linear, Shopify, and Snowflake.

Engineering Culture

We prioritize minimal process, ownership, collaboration, tool investment, diversity, and deliberate communication. Engineers run their projects and work closely with Product Managers and Designers.

Interview Process

The process includes an introduction call, a second round technical screen or design take‑home, and three final interviews covering design system or design project, design system, and technical screen or design take‑home. All interviews are conducted live and include screen sharing examples of your work.
