Job summary

Medtronic is hiring a Senior Software Engineer for the Patient Care Systems division in Ireland. You will design, develop, and validate medical device software, leading teams and collaborating with product engineers, architects, and testers to meet program commitments.

You will contribute to process improvements, promote best practices like TDD, and work across functions to deliver high-quality medical technologies that improve patient outcomes.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related technical field.
  • 4+ years of relevant technical experience, or advanced degree with 2 years of experience.
  • Experience in software design for medical devices.
  • Experience with Agile methodologies and Test-Driven Development.
  • Proficiency in teamwork and communication.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and test software for medical devices per software standards.
  • Plan projects, manage scope, and estimate work with cross-functional teams.
  • Provide hands-on leadership, mentoring for junior software engineers.
  • Conduct and/or participate in technical reviews to ensure timely delivery.

A Day in The Life Of:

The following responsibilities apply for the Senior Software Engineer role. This includes, but is not limited to the following:

  • Design, develop, and test software for medical devices per software standards.
  • Plan projects, manage scope, and estimate work in collaboration with product engineers, technology architects, software design engineers, and software test engineers.
  • Provide hands-on leadership, coaching, mentoring, and software engineering best practices to junior software engineers.
  • Conduct and/or participate in technical reviews of requirements, specifications, designs, code and other engineering artifacts, ensuring timely delivery to meet program commitments.
  • Participate in process improvement initiatives for the software team. This includes recognizing areas for improvement as well as working with others to develop and document process improvements.
  • Develop reusable patterns and encourage innovation that will increase team velocity.
  • Work collaboratively across functions and with internal and external partners to deliver high quality products to the marketplace.
Key Skills & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related technical field.
  • Minimum of 4 years of relevant technical experience, or advanced degree with 2 years of technical experience.
  • Passion for creating high quality software and documentation
  • Strong Leadership and mentoring skills
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Proficiency working in a team environment
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Experience in software design for medical devices
  • Experience with Agile methodologies and Test-Driven Development
  • Proficiency in two or more of the following technologies: JavaScript, HTML, C#, .NET MAUI, iPadOS
