The Physiological Sensing R&D team is dedicated to the end-to-end development, continuous advancement, and clinical validation of innovative monitoring technologies that measure, interpret, and leverage physiological signals to improve patient outcomes. Their expertise spans anesthesia and depth of sedation monitoring, respiratory monitoring, pulse oximetry, regional oximetry, and the integration of predictive algorithms and clinical decision support solutions. By focusing on non-invasive, real-time technologies, they empower clinicians with actionable insights in surgery, critical care, and other high-risk settings.
As a Senior Embedded Software Engineer, you will develop software for medical products, working on proof-of-concept solutions, new product features, and improvements to existing products. You will work closely with software, hardware, systems, test, and quality teams across different countries, requiring clear communication and effective collaboration across multidisciplinary teams.
Design , develop and maintain embedded software using C and C++.
Develop software for microcontrollers and related hardware interfaces.
Build proof-of-concept solutions to explore and evaluate new ideas.
Develop software for bare-metal and real-time operating system (RTOS)-based applications.
Contribute to embedded software architecture and modular design.
Take part in code reviews, software testing, and technical design discussions.
Investigate software issues and implement appropriate solutions.
Create and maintain software requirements, designs, and other development documentation, and contribute to software risk analysis.
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Embedded Systems, or a related field, with a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience; or a Master’s degree with a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience.
Strong hands‑on programming experience in embedded C and C++.
Experience developing embedded software for microcontrollers in bare‑metal and real‑time operating system (RTOS) environments, using microcontroller platforms such as STM32 and an RTOS such as ThreadX or equivalent.
Experience integrating hardware and developing drivers for various interfaces and peripherals, for example, UART, SPI, I²C, ADC, PWM, and USB.
Experience developing and optimising embedded software for performance, memory usage, reliability, and real‑time behaviour.
Experience designing software for testability, including unit testing with mocks, software integration testing, and testing on target hardware.
Experience with static analysis, code reviews, and secure coding practices.
Experience with configuration management and source‑control practices using tools such as Git, along with exposure to CI/CD practices.
Understanding of software development processes used in regulated environments.
Experience creating and maintaining software requirements, designs, test records, and traceability between requirements, implementation, and verification evidence.
Ability to remain hands‑on in software development while providing technical guidance and mentoring to junior engineers.
Experience setting up and maintaining CI/CD pipelines for embedded software development.
Experience in medical‑device software development and familiarity with IEC 62304.
Experience developing and debugging embedded software for new or early‑stage hardware platforms, including prototyping and technical evaluation.
Experience developing Python‑based test, automation, diagnostic, or data‑analysis tools for embedded systems.
