Job summary

ESB in Dublin is seeking a Specialist Lead to design and deliver 400kV OHL projects within the Linear Assets Delivery group. You will lead engineering design, manage design meetings, and coordinate safety and health plans, budgets and quality.

This role requires a Level 8 Engineering degree, 7+ years in OHL design, strong project/contract management, and excellent stakeholder engagement. Occasional nationwide travel and flexible smart-working arrangement are offered.

An opportunity has arisen in Networks Engineering, the home of engineering capability and technical expertise for the ESB Group in delivering our Net Zero 2040 targets. The successful candidate will work in the Overhead Lines (OHL) Projects group within High Voltage (HV) Linear Assets Delivery section in Networks Engineering.

In support of ESB’s strategy to build a more resilient electricity network, Engineering and Major Projects require a technically strong individual to lead the design and delivery of new-build 400kV projects within the Linear Assets Delivery group.

The Specialist Lead will be required to have strong technical design and project/contract management background, detailed knowledge of internal safety procedures, and excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide technical expertise for delivery of HV specialist design for OHL from 38kV to 400kV.
• Provide technical support to colleagues in the area of OHL design and undertaking verification of designs.
• Overall responsibility for safety as Project Supervisor Design Stage (PSDP). Preparation and review of design risk assessments and project health and safety plans for design and construction teams
• Overall responsibility for leading and delivering OHL projects and undertaking lead engineer (LE) responsibilities, applying this to design meetings and all programme deliverable, budgetary and quality requirements including a 400 kV project new build project.
• Management and coordination of technical, commercial and financial aspects projects with all internal and external stakeholders.
• Manage and coordinate the deliverables (and interdependencies) of a multidisciplinary project team of professionals responsible for the design, material management and construction quality of large high voltage overhead lines projects.
• Support technical review of OHL project outputs, ensuring alignment with ESB safety, quality and performance requirements and driving continuous improvement.
• Provide engineering and project development input to support prioritisation, risk assessment and decision-making for the linear assets portfolio.
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of OHL processes, tools and standards within the HV Linear Assets Delivery group.

Essential

Experience and Qualifications

The successful candidate will have the qualities listed below:

• Level 8 degree in Engineering or equivalent experience
• Minimum of 7 years’ experience in OHL design.
• A strong understanding of all elements of OHL design and expert knowledge in the use of PLS CADD.
• Experience in acting as Lead Engineer for OHL projects.
• Strong project management and contract management skills and knowledge.
• A strong understanding of engineering standards, design principles and project governance requirements relevant to transmission and distribution projects.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving capability.
• Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
• The demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple priorities.
• A proven track record of success contributing to the training and development of technical professionals.
• Valid driver's license for ROI, access to a car, and flexibility to travel nationwide.

Desirable

• Experience as PSDP contact for HV projects.
• Experience working across Engineering, Project Development, Asset Management and Project Delivery interfaces for linear asset projects.

Location

This position will be based in EMP's Dublin office, The Sidings Dublin 2, but travel to project locations as required is a key requirement of the role.

Salary

€71,000 - €84,000 Per annum
