Software Engineering Intern

This role has been designed as 'Hybrid' with a requirement that you will work on average 2 days per week from an HPE office.

Job Description:

We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Software Engineering Intern to join the Morpheus Central engineering team in Galway. This internship provides an excellent opportunity to gain hands‑on experience developing cloud management and automation solutions that enable customers to manage hybrid cloud environments at scale.

Start Date: 11. January 2026 (~ 8 month)

Location: Galway, Ireland

Mandatory Requirements: Enrolled in an University during the internship

Responsibilities:
  • Contribute to the development, testing, and maintenance of features within Morpheus Central.
  • Work with experienced engineers to design and implement enhancements using technologies including Groovy, Grails, Java, and modern web technologies.
  • Participate in all aspects of the software development lifecycle, including requirements analysis, development, testing, code reviews, and support.
  • Develop and maintain automated tests to improve product quality and reliability.
  • Investigate defects, troubleshoot issues, and assist with root cause analysis and resolution.
  • Contribute to automation initiatives that improve engineering productivity, deployment processes, and operational efficiency.
  • Leverage AI‑assisted development tools to accelerate learning, improve code quality, and increase development efficiency.
  • Explore emerging AI technologies and identify opportunities to enhance engineering workflows and customer solutions.
  • Collaborate with software engineers, quality engineers, product managers, and support teams across a globally distributed organisation.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation, knowledge articles, and developer resources.
  • Participate in Agile development practices, including sprint planning, stand‑ups, reviews, and retrospectives.
  • Learn and apply cloud‑native development principles, software engineering best practices, and secure coding standards.
Education and Experience Required:
  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electronic Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • Returning to complete studies following the internship period.
  • Eligible to work in Ireland.
Knowledge and Skills:
  • Experience with one or more programming languages such as Java, Groovy, JavaScript, Python or similar.
  • Understanding of software development principles and object‑oriented programming.
  • Familiarity with web application frameworks such as Grails, Spring Boot, or equivalent technologies is desirable.
  • Familiarity with source control systems such as Git.
  • Interest in cloud computing, automation, platform engineering, and artificial intelligence.
  • Experience with AI‑assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Microsoft Copilot, ChatGPT, or similar technologies is desirable but not required.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Curiosity, adaptability, and a willingness to learn new technologies.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, agile environment.
