Job summary

Toast in Ireland is seeking self-motivated students to join our software engineering teams across Android, iOS, web, and backend. You’ll work on high-impact modules, design, test, and contribute to secure, scalable systems in AWS using Java, Kotlin, Python, and ML tooling.

This hybrid role welcomes learners eager to build real restaurant technology, with mentorship from experienced engineers and exposure to data processing, ML models, and secure development practices.

Qualifications

• Current student seeking hands-on software engineering experience.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities

Toast is looking for self‑motivated individuals who love building great software and want to have fun while doing it. Our engineering teams offer opportunities to work on a variety of impactful areas, including Android and iOS development, web front‑end, back‑end infrastructure, AI/machine learning models, cybersecurity and compliance, and more. You could contribute to designing user‑friendly interfaces, building secure and scalable systems in AWS using Java or Kotlin, applying machine learning for security and analytics, or creating tools for large‑scale data processing. You’ll collaborate with talented mentors and engineers, gain hands‑on experience with technologies like Python, TensorFlow, Splunk, and big data tools, and help empower restaurants through innovative technology. Whether you’re passionate about front‑end design, advanced AI models, or cloud security, Toast has a role for you.

• Work on a an engineering team responsible for entire modules of Toast’s products
• Build, and maintain high performance, flexible, and highly scalable web and mobile applications
• Participate in designing, estimating effort, implementing, testing, debugging, configuring, integrating and documenting database, middle‑tier and front‑end code
• Develop AI powered tools that save our customers time and deliver better hospitality to their guests,
• Diagnose performance bottlenecks and implement optimizations
• Think in terms of the end‑user and design accordingly
• Actively contribute to product design and feature selection discussions
• Participate in code reviews to ensure technical implementations meet functional requirements
• Build cutting edge tools for analytical data processing, explore the power of Toast data and build machine learning models
• Implement secure software development processes
• Leverage cutting edge AI tools to enhance your development workflow, improve velocity, and help pioneer new approaches to building - contributing to a culture of innovation and productivity across the team.

Requirements:

• Currently enrolled in an academic program
• A passion for learning and a desire to understand what it takes to build software that empowers restaurants to thrive and do what they love
• Knowledge of at least one of the following:
• Java development
• Mobile software development (preferably with Android)
• SQL or NoSQL databases
• RESTful microservices
• Web front‑end basics: HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
• Machine Learning and/or Generative AI development
