Job summary

Toast in Dublin is seeking a Software Engineer (Kotlin/Java) to join the IQ Grow team. You will design, build, and maintain scalable backend services, ship features end-to-end, and collaborate with Product, Design and Engineering to deliver value and iterate based on real-world usage.

This hybrid role requires in-office collaboration two days a week in our Dublin office. You’ll work with AI tooling to accelerate development, maintain high code quality, and help Toast connect restaurants with

Qualifications

• 2+ years of Kotlin/Java experience delivering impactful products.
• Comfort reading frontend code and collaborating across the stack.
• Interest in AI-assisted development and LLM-based workflows.
• Ability to adapt to ambiguity with agile delivery.
• Passion for making users happy and measuring real-world impact.
• Strong focus on code quality, testing, and maintainability.
• Excellent communication with engineers, product, and business teams.

Responsibilities

A day in the life (Responsibilities)

• Design, build and maintain high performing, flexible, and scalable solutions that help restaurants deliver a best‑in‑class guest experience
• Ship features end‑to‑end, from design through rollout, monitoring for success and iterating based on real‑world use

• Collaborate closely with Product, Design and Engineering stakeholders
• Leverage cutting edge AI tools to enhance your development workflow, improve velocity, and help pioneer new approaches to building - contributing to a culture of innovation and productivity across the team.

What you'll need to thrive (Requirements)

• 2+ years of Kotlin/Java experience, delivering products that drive impact
• Comfortable reading and integrating with frontend applications and curious to work across the stack when needed
• Excited about AI-assisted development and LLM-based agents (Claude Code or similar), and interested in pioneering new workflows with the team
• Effectively works with ambiguity, agile delivery, and shipping usable software incrementally
• Passionate about making users happy and seeing people use your product in the wild
• Strong on software development fundamentals — code quality, unit tests, clean code — and open to evolving your workflow with AI tooling
• Strong collaboration skills: you communicate clearly with engineers, product, and business stakeholders, and adapt technical detail to the audience
• Curiosity and a growth mindset: you seek feedback, embrace change, and want to grow toward broader ownership

• React SPAs leveraging Tailwind, GraphQL and Storybook.
• Android app built in Java & Kotlin running in the restaurant
• Claude Code and similar AI agentic development tools as part of daily engineering
