Job summary

Toast Tab, Inc. is hiring a Senior Engineer in a hybrid role to own end-to-end feature development, from design through rollout, and to mentor teammates. You will work across the stack with Product, Design and Engineering, applying modern patterns and AI-assisted workflows to deliver scalable restaurant tech.

You will thrive on ambiguity, shipping incrementally with high code quality, and collaborating with stakeholders to build impactful solutions for Toast's international markets.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in backend/full-stack development delivering impactful products.
• Experience reading/wiring frontend apps and cross-stack collaboration.
• Interest in AI-assisted development and LLM-based agents.
• Able to navigate ambiguity with iterative delivery.

Outside the US, we currently operate in Canada, UK, Ireland, and Australia and are actively growing our product platform in these markets. As we gain market share, we are increasing our upmarket product investment into Mid Market (MM). As part of this team’s mission you will get close to customers to fully understand the nuances of each of their unique needs, to ensure your contributions are making a meaningful impact to their business. As a Senior Engineer you will be responsible for delivering these features from start to finish, ensuring code quality, high technical architectural standards and high quality products.

A day in the life (Responsibilities)

• Design, build and maintain high performing, flexible, and scalable solutions that help restaurants operate their business effectively
• Ship features end-to-end, from design through rollout, monitoring for success and iterating based on real-world use
• Be an awesome teammate who's all in on collaboration and collective success
• Collaborate closely with Product, Design and Engineering stakeholders
• Leverage cutting edge AI tools to enhance your development workflow, improve velocity, and help pioneer new approaches to building - contributing to a culture of innovation and productivity across the team.
• Mentor less experienced engineers and up-level the team through design reviews, constructive feedback, and agent-assisted engineering practices

What you'll need to thrive (Requirements)

• 5+ years of backend/full-stack experience, delivering products that drive impact
• Ability to read and integrate with frontend applications; showing curiosity to work across the stack when needed
• Excited about AI-assisted development and LLM-based agents (Claude Code or similar), and interested in pioneering new workflows with the team
• Effectively works with ambiguity, agile delivery, and shipping usable software incrementally
• Passionate about making users happy and seeing people use your product in the wild
• Strong on software development fundamentals — code quality, unit tests, clean code — and open to evolving your workflow with AI tooling
• Strong collaboration skills: you communicate clearly with engineers, product, and business stakeholders, and adapt technical detail to the audience
• Curiosity and a growth mindset: you seek feedback, embrace change, and want to grow toward broader ownership
