Job summary

Toast is seeking an experienced engineer to design, build, and maintain scalable backend and full-stack solutions that empower restaurants to operate more effectively. You will work across the stack, integrating frontend components and leveraging AI-assisted development to accelerate delivery in a fast-paced environment.

You’ll collaborate with Product, Design, and Engineering teams, ship features end-to-end, and continuously improve code quality with tests.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of backend/full-stack experience delivering impactful products.
• Ability to read and integrate with frontend applications.
• Interest in AI-assisted development and LLM-based agents.
• Ability to work with ambiguity and deliver iteratively.
• Passion for making users happy with the product.
• Strong fundamentals: code quality, tests, and evolving workflows with AI.

What you'll need to thrive (Requirements)

• 3+ years of backend/full-stack experience, delivering products that drive impact


• Ability to read and integrate with frontend applications; showing curiosity to work across the stack when needed


• Excited about AI-assisted development and LLM-based agents (Claude Code or similar), and interested in pioneering new workflows with the team


• Effectively works with ambiguity, agile delivery, and shipping usable software incrementally


• Passionate about making users happy and seeing people use your product in the wild


• Strong on software development fundamentals, code quality, unit tests, clean code and open to evolving your workflow with AI tooling


• Strong collaboration skills: you communicate clearly with engineers, product, and business stakeholders, and adapt technical detail to the audience


• Curiosity and a growth mindset: you seek feedback, embrace change, and want to grow toward broader ownership
