Job description

Croom Medical manufactures orthopaedic implants and medical components through precision machining and metal additive manufacturing. We are investing in our manufacturing capability and the digital systems that support it.

We are looking for a Software Engineer to develop and improve the applications used by our production, engineering and quality teams. You will work directly with the people using these systems, understand how work moves through the factory, and turn practical requirements into reliable software.

The role combines application development, system integration and workflow automation. You will take ownership of agreed projects from requirements through testing, deployment and ongoing support, working alongside our external software partners.

Key Responsibilities and Duties
  • Develop and maintain web applications that support manufacturing execution, inspections, traceability and new product introduction.
  • Build reliable integrations between manufacturing, ERP and quality systems using APIs and controlled data interfaces.
  • Replace repetitive data entry and spreadsheet tasks with documented workflows that reduce errors and save time.
  • Create usable shop-floor interfaces and dashboards for production progress, capacity, quality and delivery performance.
  • Write maintainable code, review changes, test failure scenarios and manage releases through version control.
  • Work with Quality to document requirements and support software validation, including test evidence and controlled changes.
  • Implement appropriate access controls, audit trails and secure handling of credentials and manufacturing data.
  • Troubleshoot application and integration issues, maintain support documentation and coordinate fixes with software partners.
  • Evaluate practical AI-assisted workflows for agreed use cases, with access controls and human review appropriate to the task.
Key Skills and Competencies

What we are looking for

  • At least three years of professional software development experience, or a comparable record of independently delivering and supporting production applications.
  • Experience with relational databases, SQL, data modelling and API integration.
  • Practical use of Git, code review, automated testing and controlled deployment processes.
  • Evidence that you can investigate defects, handle incomplete requirements and deliver software that people can use and maintain.
  • Clear communication with technical colleagues and factory users, and a willingness to spend time understanding manufacturing processes.
  • A qualification in software engineering, computer science or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.

Experience that would be useful

  • Manufacturing execution systems, ERP, quality systems or software used in a regulated manufacturing environment.
  • Microsoft 365 integrations, reporting tools or cloud application operations.
  • Barcode scanning, inspection data, equipment connectivity or production scheduling applications.
  • Developing and evaluating AI-assisted applications, including how to check outputs and protect sensitive data
