Job summary

Delta Centre is seeking a dedicated Social Care Worker to provide day-to-day personal care and support for residents with intellectual disabilities. You will implement person-centred plans, review protocols, and promote independence while maintaining safeguarding, health and safety standards.

Applicants should have a Level 7/8 degree in Social Care or Social Studies, CORU registration (or submitted), and strong communication skills. The role requires flexible shift work within a seven-day roster.

Qualifications

  • Degree level 7/8 in Social Care or equivalent.
  • CORU registration or CORU in progress.
  • Experience in social care with adults with intellectual disabilities.
  • Excellent communication and record-keeping skills.
  • Knowledge of National Standards for Adults with Disabilities.

Job description

Purpose of Role

The social care worker (SCW) will provide day-to-day personal care and support for the residents of Delta Centre. The Social Care Worker must have the desire and the belief that the person with an intellectual disability has something unique, equal and important to offer society.

Key Tasks
  • Experience dignity and respect.
  • Are afforded the opportunity to make choices.
  • Have an opportunity to contribute and learn.
  • Are protected from all forms of Abuse.
  • Review and put into practice the details of Person-Centred Plans for each resident.
  • Participate in regular reviews of any protocols/plans of care for each resident.
  • Understand and facilitate residents' needs by appropriate communication systems.
  • Assist each resident in reaching their maximum potential in independence, communication and personal development.
  • Establish trusting relationships through consistency of care.
  • Adhere to all Delta Centres Policies, Procedures, Employee Handbook and working practices.
  • Adhere to all national policies, including (but not limited to) HIQA Standards, HSE policies, including any Safeguarding policies.
  • Encourage and support community involvement.
  • Support residents to identify their future aspirations and current support needs, consider how these can be met and ensure documentation is updated accordingly.
  • Lead and encourage individual person-centred processes, ensuring the best possible outcomes for each resident in each aspect of their life while respecting their rights and choices.
  • Foster and encourage independence and initiative and respect the age and status of each resident.
  • All duties must be carried out to comply with: Statutory legislation in particular but not exclusively the Health Act 2007 National and Delta Centre agreed Policies and Codes of Good Practice, including Safeguarding Vulnerable Persons at Risk of Abuse, Delta Centre Medication Policy Notification of accidents and other Health and Safety requirements in compliance with Delta Centre instructions Fire precautions Equal Opportunity principles Health and Safety Personal Profile: This position is not eligible for employment permit sponsorship. Applicants must hold and maintain an independent legal right to work in Ireland for the duration of their employment. Delta Services does not ordinarily support or participate in employment permit applications, transfers, renewals or change-of-employer processes for this position.
Education & Training

A degree level 7 or 8 qualification in Social Care / Social Studies or equivalent field is a requirement for this position. Applicants must be CORU registered or have their CORU application submitted.

Experience

Experience in the field of social care is essential. Proven competence in the care and support of the adults with intellectual disabilities and a genuine interest in this area is required.

Knowledge & Skills
  • A sound knowledge and proven ability to interpret and apply legislation such as The National Standards for Adults with Disabilities.
  • Applicants must have excellent communication skills and be highly motivated.
  • Excellent record keeping skills are required.
  • Proven ability to develop positive relationships with a variety of stakeholders.
  • Flexible and adaptable nature Shift work over 24/7.
