Job summary

Autism A Chara in Ashford, Co. Wicklow is seeking a Social Care Worker to join our residential service. Shifts include evenings, weekends and waking night duties to support people with complex needs and promote independence.

Applicants should hold a QQI Level 7 in Social Care or an equivalent degree, be eligible for CORU registration, and have relevant experience. A full Irish driving licence is desirable to drive service vehicles. Immediate application encouraged.

Qualifications required for a Social Care Worker

• A full QQI level 7 Award in Social Care or Applied Social Care/Studies/Practice at degree level is essential, (or relevant schedule 3 qualification as listed on CORUs website) with at least 6 months recent experience working as a Social Care Worker supporting people with complex needs; OR
• A relevant 3rd level qualification at degree level i.e. Social Work/Psychology with at least 2 years recent experience working as a Social Care Worker supporting people with complex needs; AND
• Proof of successful registration with CORU as a Social Care Worker
  • OR proof of application in progress with CORU.

Skills/Abilities required of a Social Care Worker

• Proven knowledge of current legislation and regulations relating to the Social Care Sector
• Understanding of the needs and rights of individuals with autism
• Proven ability to work on own initiative
• Proven experience in the implementation and development of support/care plans and PCP’s
• Places the needs of the person supported as the key focus in all activities
• Delivers support according to the person’s PCP and care plan
• Fluent English and excellent communication skills
• Full, clean drivers licence desirable with requirement to drive service vehicles
