Corlann – West Region (Spraoi Children’s Respite Service) in Roscommon town is seeking competent Social Care Workers. A panel may be formed from this process to fill future appointments over the next 6 months.

Job Ref: 104845. The role involves acting as a key-worker for children/young people, providing a safe environment, assisting with personal care, leading shifts when required, and ensuring HIQA standards are met.

Qualifications

  • Be registered in the Social Care Workers Register maintained by CORU.
  • Or eligible under the Section 91 route for registration in the Social Care Workers Register.
  • A full clean manual Driving Licence is essential; may need Class D1 licence.
  • Fluency in verbal and written English is essential.
  • Experience with intellectual disability or challenging behaviour is desirable.
  • Experience in goal setting and person-centred programme implementation is desirable.

Responsibilities

CORLANN – WEST REGION

SPRAOI CHILDREN’S RESPITE SERVICE

JOB REF: 104845

A panel may be formed as a result of this process from which subsequent Social Care Worker appointments within the Children’s Respite Service may be made over the next 6 months.

Location:

Spraoi Children’s Respite Services provides respite services to children from 6 years up to 18 years of age who have a wide range of needs including those with autism, physical disability, medical needs and behavioural needs Spraoi Respite service is located in Roscommon town.

The Role:

The Social Care Worker will fulfil a key-worker and supportive role for the children/young people; aim to provide an environment where the children/young people will be safe and secure; be responsible for all aspects of personal care required by the individual child/young person (including support with their meals, personal hygiene, and other related aspects of physical well-being, to the extent required by the child)/young person); lead the shift where required; work in a constructive, flexible and positive manner with all colleagues and will actively participate in, and contribute to, ensuring compliance with HIQA standards.

Reporting/Responsible To:

Eligibility Criteria/Statutory Registration, Professional Qualifications, Experience:

Be registered in the Social Care Workers Register maintained by the Social Care Workers Registration Board - CORU

Or

Be eligible under the Section 91 (existing practitioner) route for registration in the Social

Care Workers Register maintained by the Social Care Workers Registration Board - CORU (evidence of application status is necessary)

AND

A full clean manual Driving Licence, which qualifies you to drive manual transmission vehicles on Irish Roads is an essential requirement. It may also be necessary for the appointee to obtain a Class D1 Driving Licence (if not already in possession of one). Assistance will be given towards this purpose of obtaining a class D1 licence.

Fluency in verbal and written English is an essential requirement of this post.

Experience:

Experience working with individuals with an intellectual disability and individuals with challenging behaviour is desirable. Full training will be provided.

Experience in the area of goal setting and programme implementation through a person centred approach is also desirable.

Working within a staff team and shift leading at times.

Skills:

Leadership and networking skills - Staff will be expected to network with local community groups and develop positive links for the people who use the service.

Good organisational and planning skills, with the ability to support goal setting and following through to the achievement of outcomes

Creativity, initiative, self-motivation, flexibility and good judgement

Commitment to current best practice internationally and co-operating in an interdisciplinary team environment with a person-centred philosophy

Excellent listening skills, patience and a sense of humour

Working Hours:

  • 2 x posts - Permanent full-time – 78 hours per fortnight.
  • 1 x post - Permanent part-time – 60 hours per fortnight.

The posts are based on a 14 day duty roster. The successful candidates will be required to work days, weekends, public holidays, night duty and sleep-ins as required to meet service needs. The Corlann model of service is based on Personal Outcome Measures requiring employees to be flexible in their working hours to provide a quality service delivery for each individual.

22 days pro rata per annum. Appropriate service related leave will be granted after 5 and 10 years’ service respectively.

Remuneration:

Department of Health Social Care Worker salary scale (01/06/2026) - €41,260 x 10 increments – € 56,717 (max) pro rata per annum. LSI € 57,789 pro rata per annum is payable after 3 years on the maximum of the scale.

Additional payments will be made for weekends, public holidays and night duty when worked. Salary quoted is based on a 39 hour working week. The successful candidate will be granted incremental credit subject to satisfactory verification of previous public sector service

2 x Permanent full-time and pensionable.

1 x Permanent part-time and pensionable.

A probationary period of nine months from the date of appointment applies to the post. The employment may be terminated at any time during the probationary period should the employer find that the appointee is unsuitable to continue employment. The probation period may be extended at the Employer’s discretion.
