Job summary

Becton, Dickinson and Company (BD) is seeking a Systems Engineer in Limerick to lead cross‑functional product development, design verification and validation for electromechanical medical devices. You will translate inputs into robust requirements, drive system-level testing and participate in design reviews with global partners.

The role requires a strong systems engineering background, excellent communication, and the ability to work on-site four days per week with BD's U.S. teams.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Engineering or Science Degree with a strong technical background in Systems Engineering, medical device development, or similar roles.
  • Ability to work in a team with global collaboration and interacting with external development partners.
  • Excellent communication and written skills with attention to detail.
  • Experience in multiple areas within Systems Engineering such as requirements development and management, system architectural planning and design, interface control, systems integration and characterization testing.
  • Experience interpreting experimental results, performing statistical analysis or DFSS techniques and FMEA methods is a plus.
  • Experience with requirements management tools such as Microsoft Azure/Modern Requirements is a plus.
  • Experience in development to IEC 60601 and IEC 62304 standards is a plus.
  • On-site presence at Limerick site 4 days per week with collaboration with teams in the United States.

Responsibilities

  • Plan through all project phases, strategy and execution of product development, design verification and validation.
  • Has a strong background in electromechanical medical device, IVD or lab automation design and development.
  • Translate design inputs from User Needs, Regulatory, Quality, Marketing, Product Security etc. into product requirements, specifications and detailed trace matrices.
  • Critically assess the design and test implications for product requirements and specifications.
  • Coordinate system-level product development; requirements, architecture, integration and system characterization testing.
  • Challenge design proposals and prototypes through robust design reviews.
  • Convey technical challenges and possible solutions and manage key decisions and tradeoffs.
  • Guide in identifying key system behavior issues and drive solutions for new and existing products.
  • Establish courses of action and plans for self and others to ensure work is completed efficiently.
  • Develop and sustain productive business relationships on a global front.
  • Share Systems Engineering knowledge with junior team members and other functions.

  • Please note: this role is based at our Limerick site, where you will be required to be on site 4 days per week.
  • You\'ll partner consistently with teams located in the United States.
  • Willingness to adapt working hours is required.

The salary or hourly pay ranges are influenced by labor laws and Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) requirements applicable to the work location which may also affect the workplace arrangement of the role.
