Newman Stewart Ltd is seeking a Senior Structural Engineer to lead the delivery and coordination of structural activities on major energy and infrastructure projects. You will act as the focal point between design, BIM, fabrication, production, transport and site installation, applying sound first-principles judgement to develop practical solutions.
Chartered Structural Engineer status with Eurocodes/British Standards knowledge is essential; experience with data centre or complex industrial
Our client is an established engineering and manufacturing business operating within the energy and infrastructure sector. The organisation delivers technically complex engineering solutions for major projects across the UK and wider European markets, combining in-house design and manufacturing capability to support efficient and high-quality project delivery. With continued growth across its markets, the business is investing in its technical capability and people to support the delivery of increasingly complex projects.
The Senior Structural Engineer will take responsibility for the delivery and coordination of structural engineering activities across assigned projects, providing practical, safe and buildable solutions throughout the project lifecycle. Acting as the structural engineering focal point between design, BIM, fabrication, production, transport and site installation, the role will develop solutions for plantrooms, steel support frames, gantries, pipe supports, access steelwork and associated secondary structures.
A key focus will be applying sound first-principles engineering judgement to develop bespoke solutions where standard details are not directly applicable. The role will involve structural design and assessment across steel, masonry, reinforced concrete and timber, together with reviewing existing structures, foundations and structural interfaces for new plant and equipment. The Senior Structural Engineer will also review fabrication and connection details, assess temporary works and installation requirements, and work closely with multidisciplinary teams to ensure design intent is maintained through fabrication, transport and site delivery.
The successful candidate will bring Chartered Structural Engineer status together with proven experience gained within a consultancy, contractor, manufacturer, offsite construction or similar engineering environment. Strong knowledge of Eurocodes and relevant British Standards will be important, together with a sound understanding of structural first principles and the ability to make practical engineering judgements when assessing existing structures and developing new solutions. Experience of data centre projects, plantrooms or other complex industrial structures would be advantageous, as would exposure to 3D coordination software and BIM-led design environments.
