Job summary

Vickerstock are partnering with an established Irish engineering consultancy in Dublin to recruit a Senior Structural Engineer. You will take ownership of building projects, delivering technical and commercial outcomes from design through construction while collaborating with clients and multi-disciplinary teams.

Key duties include leading design work, preparing reports and fee proposals, and mentoring junior engineers.

Qualifications

• BEng (Hons) or equivalent degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
• Approximately 5–10 years' post-graduate structural engineering experience.
• Chartered Engineer status with Engineers Ireland, IStructE or equivalent preferred.
• Strong experience delivering building structures projects within a consultancy.
• Excellent understanding of structural design principles and codes of practice.

Responsibilities

• Act as Project Lead with overall responsibility for the delivery of structural engineering services.
• Lead structural design and oversee the production of drawings, calculations and design packages.
• Prepare fee proposals and monitor project costs against budgets.
• Coordinate directly with Architects, M&E Consultants, Quantity Surveyors, PMs and design teams.
• Review calculations, designs and documentation prepared by junior engineers.
• Prepare Design Risk Assessments and support management of project risk.
• Undertake BCAR inspections and lead project stage reviews.
• Support and mentor less experienced engineers within the Structural Engineering team.

Vickerstock are pleased to be partnering with an established Irish engineering consultancy as they continue to strengthen their Structural Engineering team in Dublin. They are seeking an experienced Structural Engineer with approximately 5-10 years' experience to take responsibility for the technical and commercial delivery of building projects, working directly with clients and multidisciplinary design teams from initial design through to construction. This is an excellent opportunity for a Chartered or near-Chartered Structural Engineer ready to take genuine ownership of projects, combining technical design with project leadership, client management and the development of junior engineers.

Your new role as Senior Structural Engineer

As Senior Structural Engineer, you will act as Project Lead across a portfolio of building projects, taking responsibility for the successful delivery of the consultancy's structural engineering services. You will combine hands-on technical engineering with project management, commercial awareness and client-facing responsibility.

Responsibilities

• Act as Project Lead with overall responsibility for the delivery of structural engineering services
• Lead structural design and oversee the production of drawings, calculations and design packages
• Prepare fee proposals and monitor project costs against agreed budgets
• Coordinate directly with Architects, M&E Consultants, Quantity Surveyors, Project Managers and other members of the design team
• Ensure structural designs are accurately represented across general arrangement and reinforcement drawings
• Prepare technical reports, specifications and project documentation
• Represent the consultancy at client, design team and site meetings
• Review calculations, designs and documentation prepared by Graduate and Design Engineers
• Prepare Design Risk Assessments and support management of project risk
• Undertake BCAR inspections
• Lead project stage reviews and ensure projects are delivered in accordance with internal quality procedures
• Support and mentor less experienced engineers within the Structural Engineering team

What you will need to succeed as Senior Structural Engineer

• Technical experience: BEng (Hons) or equivalent degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
• Approximately 5-10 years' post-graduate structural engineering experience
• Chartered Engineer status with Engineers Ireland, IStructE or equivalent would be preferred; candidates actively progressing towards Chartership will also be considered
• Strong experience delivering building structures projects within a consultancy environment
• Excellent understanding of structural engineering design principles, relevant standards and codes of practice
• Experience producing and reviewing structural calculations, drawings, reports and specifications
• Ability to independently solve complex engineering problems and take responsibility for technical decisions
• Project leadership: experience leading structural engineering projects and coordinating multidisciplinary design teams
• Strong client-facing communication and stakeholder management skills
• Commercial awareness with experience preparing fee proposals and monitoring project budgets
• Ability to review and provide technical guidance to junior engineers
• A proactive approach with the ability to take ownership of project delivery
• Commitment to continued professional development and the wider engineering profession
