Job summary

AMD is seeking a Senior Staff Physical Design Engineer to lead the physical design team for high-speed microprocessors. Based in Dublin or Cork, you will balance power, performance and area while aligning with business goals, mentors, and drives design excellence.

You will collaborate across CPU cores, perform floorplanning and timing, push PPA targets, and contribute to innovative flows. Strong communication and leadership are essential as you guide engineers and drive cross-functional reviews.

Qualifications

• Electrical Engineering degree required.
• 5+ years of experience in physical design or related field.
• Experience leading senior engineers is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

• Primary technical contact for your focus area.
• Proactively works with peers in technology and design reviews.
• Quantify impacts of technology issues in design reviews.
• Work cross functionally across CPU Cores team to identify and assess complex technical issues/risks, and develop solutions.
• Work closely with Design teams for Area and Floorplan refinement, Timing targets, Power targets.
• Use AI to enhance your own productivity and contribute to building AI tools.

SENIOR STAFF PHYSICAL DESIGN ENGINEER

• Location: Dublin or Cork

The Role:

We are seeking a seasoned Physical Design Engineer with expertise in Microprocessor Design and Design Techniques. You are meticulous about Power, Performance and Area while balancing the business needs. This senior role will stretch you as you lead the physical design team to help create new design for AMD.

The Person:

• You have excellent communication and presentation skills, demonstrated through technical publications, presentations, trainings, executive briefings, etc.


• You are highly adept at collaboration among top‑thinkers and engineers alike, ready to mentor and guide, and help to elevate the knowledge and skills of the team around you.


• You are experienced in leading teams of senior engineers

Key Responsibilities

• Primary technical contact for your focus area


• Pro‑actively works with peers in technology and design reviews


• Quantify impacts of technology issues in design reviews


• Work cross functionally across CPU Cores team to identify and assess complex technical issues/risks, and develop solutions


• Work closely with Design teams for Area and Floorplan refinement, Timing targets, Power targets.


• Use AI to enhance your own productivity and contribute in the building of Agentic AI tools to improve productivity of the larger team.

Preferred Experience

• Experience technically leading junior engineers.


• Experienced in high‑speed microprocessor designs


• Full‑Chip Floor planning


• Full‑Chip Timing


• DRC/LVS at partition and/or Full‑Chip Level


• Ability to create new design ideas and flow


• Knowledge of current sub‑micro technologies


• Solid understanding Physical Design tools and flows or custom circuit design

Preferred Education And Experience

• Electrical Engineering Degree with 5+ years of experience preferred
