Job summary

Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) is seeking a Senior Staff Physical Design Engineer in Ireland (Dublin or Cork) to lead the physical design team across CPU cores. You’ll drive full-chip floorplanning, timing, and power targets, while mentoring junior engineers and collaborating with cross-functional peers.

You will apply advanced design techniques, ensure robust sign-off, and leverage AI-enhanced workflows to boost productivity. This is a hybrid/ onsite role within AMD’s engineering teams in Ireland.

Qualifications

• Electrical Engineering degree with 5+ years of experience.
• Experience leading junior engineers.
• Experience in high-speed microprocessor designs.
• Full-Chip Floor planning and Full-Chip Timing.
• Knowledge of DRC/LVS at partition and Full-Chip level.

Responsibilities

• Primary technical contact for the focus area and lead the physical design team.
• Collaborate across CPU Cores team to identify complex issues and risks and develop solutions.
• Work with Design teams for area, floorplanning, timing and power targets.

SENIOR STAFF PHYSICAL DESIGN ENGINEER

• Location: Dublin or Cork

The Role:

We are seeking a seasoned Physical Design Engineer with expertise in Microprocessor Design and Design Techniques. You are meticulous about Power, Performance and Area while balancing the business needs. This senior role will stretch you as you lead the physical design team to help create new design for AMD.

The Person:

• You have excellent communication and presentation skills, demonstrated through technical publications, presentations, trainings, executive briefings, etc.

• You are highly adept at collaboration among top-thinkers and engineers alike, ready to mentor and guide, and help to elevate the knowledge and skills of the team around you.

• You are experienced in leading teams of senior engineers

Key Responsibilities:

• Primary technical contact for your focus area

• Pro-actively works with peers in technology and design reviews

• Quantify impacts of technology issues in design reviews

• Work cross functionally across CPU Cores team to identify and assess complex technical issues/risks, and develop solutions

• Work closely with Design teams for Area and Floorplan refinement, Timing targets, Power targets.

• Use AI to enhance your own productivity and contribute in the building of Agentic AI tools to improve productivity of the larger team.

Preferred Experience:

• Experience technically leading junior engineers.

• Experienced in high-speed microprocessor designs

• Full-Chip Floor planning

• Full-Chip Timing

• DRC/LVS at partition and/or Full-Chip Level

• Ability to create new design ideas and flow

• Knowledge of current sub-micro technologies

• Solid understanding Physical Design tools and flows or custom circuit design

Preferred Education and Experience:

• Electrical Engineering Degree with 5+ years of experience preferred
