Job summary

Honeycomb.io is hiring a Senior Site Reliability Engineer to scale our backend systems for high-volume customers across a fully distributed team. In this role you will work with AWS, Kubernetes, Helm, Terraform, and Kafka to improve reliability and performance while maintaining a strong culture of data-driven decisions.

You will train others as an Incident Commander, participate in an EU on-call rotation, and help shape a cross-Atlantic engineering culture.

Qualifications

• Strong experience in AWS and Kubernetes.
• Experience with cost analysis and reduction.
• Solid Helm, Terraform, and CI/CD experience.
• Project management skills.
• Software engineering experience (Golang is a plus).
• Experience with Kafka or another high-volume distributed system.
• Excellent written and spoken communication.
• Familiarity with observability concepts (SLOs) and data-driven decision making.

Responsibilities

• Help Honeycomb scale backend systems for high-volume customers.
• Build organizational trust through transparent communication.
• Collaborate with other backend teams to optimize infrastructure.
• Act as Incident Commander after training.
• Foster cross-Atlantic engineering culture.
• Participate in the EU on-call rotation of a follow-the-sun schedule.
• Navigate tradeoffs between reliability and other goals.
• Optional: represent Honeycomb through blog posts, talks, and presentations.
