Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience in software/platform engineering.
• Strong Kubernetes APIs, CRDs, reconciliation loops and controller patterns.
• Experience with production Kubernetes environments.
• Knowledge of distributed systems and automated recovery.
• Experience with CI/CD, GitOps, Helm and infrastructure automation.
• Strong Linux, containerization, networking and troubleshooting.
• Understanding of Kubernetes security principles.
• Ability to mentor and support less experienced engineers.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop Kubernetes Operators and Controllers using Go.
• Build Kubernetes-native automation with CRDs, APIs and reconciliation workflows.
• Automate infrastructure provisioning, configuration, scaling and recovery.
• Improve platform reliability and automated recovery capabilities.
• Develop automated unit, integration and end-to-end tests.
• Support CI/CD pipelines and GitOps deployment processes.
• Work with Terraform, Helm and Argo CD.
• Troubleshoot complex Kubernetes, Linux and cloud infra issues.

The Opportunity

Recann is recruiting for an experienced Senior Software Engineer with strong Golang and Kubernetes expertise to join a global platform engineering team based in Dublin.

This is a hands‑on development opportunity working on cloud‑native platforms, Kubernetes Operators and infrastructure automation.

You'll be responsible for designing and building software that automates the management of Kubernetes environments, helping to improve platform reliability, scalability and operational efficiency.

We're particularly interested in speaking with engineers who have genuine software development experience in Go, rather than purely infrastructure or DevOps backgrounds.

What You'll Be Doing

• Designing and developing Kubernetes Operators and Controllers using Golang.
• Building Kubernetes‑native automation, including Custom Resource Definitions (CRDs), APIs and reconciliation workflows.
• Developing software to automate infrastructure provisioning, configuration, scaling, upgrades and recovery.
• Improving platform reliability, resilience and automated recovery capabilities.
• Building automated unit, integration and end‑to‑end tests.
• Supporting CI/CD pipelines and GitOps deployment processes.
• Working with technologies including Terraform, Helm and Argo CD.
• Troubleshooting complex Kubernetes, Linux and cloud infrastructure issues.
• Implementing Kubernetes security best practices, including RBAC, secrets management and workload isolation.
• Contributing to technical design decisions and supporting other engineers.

What We're Looking For

• Extensive experience in software engineering, platform engineering, cloud engineering or a related technical discipline, typically gained over 8+ years.
• Strong understanding of Kubernetes APIs, CRDs, reconciliation loops and controller patterns.
• Experience working with production Kubernetes environments.
• Knowledge of distributed systems, fault tolerance and automated recovery.
• Experience with CI/CD, GitOps, Helm and infrastructure automation.
• Strong Linux, containerisation, networking and troubleshooting skills.
• Understanding of Kubernetes security principles.
• Ability to contribute to technical discussions and support less experienced engineers.

Nice to Have

Experience with any of the following would be beneficial:

• Kubebuilder, Operator SDK, controller‑runtime or client‑go.
• Terraform, Argo CD, Flux, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI or Jenkins.
• AWS EKS, Azure AKS, Google GKE or Rancher.
• Prometheus, Grafana or Loki.
• Istio, Linkerd or Cilium.
• Engineering experience within regulated industries.
• Kubernetes certifications such as CKA, CKAD or CKS.
