Job summary

Cisco's Webex Engineering Group in Galway is seeking an experienced software engineer to own end-to-end Kubernetes-based microservices configurations in a hybrid, Galway-based role.

You will drive GitOps operations with Argo CD, implement canary releases, and secure deployments with Vault while collaborating across a cross-functional team to deliver scalable, reliable infrastructure and software.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design, codification, testing, and delivery of Kubernetes-based microservices configurations (Deployments, Services, Ingress, ConfigMaps) using Kubernetes, Helm. Build reusable base configs with overlays and enable safe promotion across dev, staging, and production.
• Drive operational excellence in a GitOps model using Argo CD, implement canary releases and validation gates, codify autoscaling and security via Vault and Kubernetes Secrets.
• Leverage AI-assisted tools to accelerate configuration-as-code development, validation, and optimization to improve delivery speed and reduce risk.
• Tackle complex issues across configuration, policy, observability, and data services with a data-driven approach using Prometheus and Grafana.
• Own end-to-end configuration quality, enforce governance with Open Policy Agent, and ensure secure, compliant deployments with backup/restore and disaster recovery.
• Develop a self-service platform using Backstage and Argo CD to empower teams to deploy via declarative configs and promote best practices.

Your Impact

• Full Lifecycle Development: Lead the design, codification, testing, and delivery of Kubernetes-based microservices configurations (Deployments, Services, Ingress, ConfigMaps) using Kubernetes, Helm. Build reusable base configs with environment overlays and enable safe promotion across dev, staging, and production.
• DevOps & Microservices: Drive operational excellence in a GitOps model using Argo CD. Implement progressive delivery (canary releases, validation gates), codify autoscaling and resiliency, and manage secure secrets via HashiCorp Vault and Kubernetes Secrets.
• Embrace AI technology: Use AI-assisted tools to accelerate development, validation, and optimization of configuration-as-code, improving delivery speed and reducing deployment risk.
• Adaptable & Problem-Solver: Address complex challenges across configuration, policy, observability, and data services. Apply a data‑driven approach using Prometheus and Grafana to improve reliability and performance.
• Ownership & Quality: Own end‑to‑end configuration quality, enforcing governance with Open Policy Agent. Ensure secure, compliant deployments and full reproducibility, including backup, restore, and disaster recovery.
• Support & Growth: Advance a self‑service platform using Backstage and Argo CD, enabling teams to deploy via declarative configs while promoting best practices and continuous improvement.

Minimum Qualifications

• 3rd Level Qualification: Bachelor's or higher degree in an analytical subject (e.g. Computer Science, Electronic/Software Engineering).
• Work experience: 7+ Years Demonstrated experience in software development.
• Coding Aptitude: Extensive architecture and programming experience and the willingness to learn new technologies quickly.
• Problem Solver: Ability to apply and lead a scientific approach and creative skills to complex problems.
• Adaptable & Collaborative: Flexible, thrives in diverse team environments, and communicates clearly and precisely.
• Quality Focus: Strong attention to detail and a commitment to continuous learning and quality results.

Preferred Qualifications

• Strong Kubernetes + microservices experience
• Hands‑on with Helm or Kustomize
• Experience with GitOps (e.g., Argo CD)
• Knowledge of secrets management (e.g., HashiCorp Vault)
• Experience with observability (metrics/logs/tracing)
• Familiarity with policy enforcement via Open Policy Agent
