Job summary

The Irish Times Group is seeking a Senior Software Engineer for the Commercial Platforms team in Dublin. This hybrid role focuses on designing, building and evolving core commercial capabilities that power subscriptions, advertising operations and customer journeys.

You'll work with Product, Commercial, Marketing, Data and Engineering teams to deliver scalable web applications and backend services, with emphasis on cloud-native architectures and modern software practices.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Strong commercial experience developing modern web applications using React.
• Commercial experience with PHP and Drupal-based applications.
• Experience designing and building scalable customer-facing digital products.
• Experience designing, developing and integrating RESTful APIs and backend services.
• Experience developing cloud-native applications and services.
• Strong understanding of software design principles, architecture and engineering best practices.
• Experience working with microservices architectures and distributed systems.
• Experience building event-driven systems and asynchronous integrations.
• Experience delivering and supporting complex integrations between business-critical platforms.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain modern web applications and digital products.
• Design and develop scalable backend services, APIs and integrations.
• Build and evolve platforms supporting subscriptions, commercial operations and customer experiences.
• Develop integrations between internal systems and third-party platforms.
• Contribute to customer-facing digital journeys and self-service capabilities.
• Design and implement cloud-native solutions using modern architectural patterns.
• Build and maintain scalable microservices and event-driven systems.
• Collaborate with Product, Commercial, Marketing, Data and Engineering teams to deliver business-critical capabilities.
• Contribute to platform modernisation and technical transformation initiatives.
• Drive improvements in performance, reliability, scalability and security.
• Mentor and support other engineers through coaching and constructive feedback.
