Job summary

WSP Ireland Roads team seeks a Senior Engineer with postgraduate experience in design and project management of road schemes and active travel projects. Based in Dublin, Limerick or Naas, you will lead a team delivering concept to detailed designs for major national schemes including national road projects and active travel initiatives.

You will mentor junior staff, coordinate design reviews, and ensure compliance with standards and health & safety.

Qualifications

• Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent.
• Incorporated or Chartered Status (AMIEI/MIEI) or equivalent.
• Proven project management skills for multi-disciplinary road/public transport schemes.
• Ability to liaise across disciplines and coordinate with stakeholders.
• Experience in contract preparation, administration or site supervision.
• Experience mentoring junior staff and leading a team.
• Senior role ensuring health, safety and quality compliance.

Job Description

The Ireland Roads team is seeking a Senior Engineer with extensive postgraduate experience in the design and project management of road schemes and active travel schemes. The position is based in either Dublin, Limerick or Naas offices.

The successful candidate will lead and help grow a team undertaking concept, preliminary and detailed designs for major national road schemes including the N/M20 Cork to Limerick Project, Public Transport schemes (including Cork BusConnects and MetroLink) and active travel schemes for the National Transport Authority and Local Authorities.

Responsibilities

• Project Management and provision of engineering expertise for a range of multi‑disciplinary infrastructure schemes of varying scale, complexity and value within Ireland.
• Client focus, lead and attend design review and progress meetings.
• Line management and mentoring of junior staff.
• Technical input and design on roads, public transport and active travel projects, including: alignment and drainage design and modelling using Civil3D/Open Roads and WinDes, integration into BIM.
• Application of the Transport Infrastructure Ireland, National Transport Authority and other relevant standards.
• Developing and delivering design solutions, including applications for departures and relaxations from standards and ensuring all requisite approvals and consents are secured.
• Undertaking and supervising preparation of Public Works Contracts, tender documents, project budgeting/construction cost estimating and procurement.
• Preparation of reports throughout a project lifecycle.
• Responsibility for technical checking and design reviews.
• Ensuring compliance with Health & Safety and Environmental Legislation and in‑house quality assurance standards/processes.

Qualifications

• A degree in Civil Engineering or another appropriate subject.
• Incorporated or Chartered Status (AMIEI/MIEI or equivalent) or equivalent demonstrable experience.
• Clear and successful project management skills and technical competence in roads engineering, ideally on road schemes or public transport/active travel schemes.
• Ability to liaise and coordinate on multi‑disciplinary projects and working knowledge of other disciplines’ technical capabilities.
• Proven track record of dealing with clients and project stakeholders and forging effective relationships in a professional and customer‑focused manner.
• Experience of contract preparation or contract administration/site supervision using Public Works Contracts.
• Experience of managing, guiding and mentoring junior staff.
• Senior role in ensuring compliance with Health & Safety considerations throughout scheme delivery.
