Qualifications

  • Minimum of 10 years' civil engineering experience including wastewater projects.
  • Experience as Resident Engineer, Site Engineer or similar on wastewater upgrades.
  • Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering.
  • Strong health and safety knowledge for major civil works.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management.
  • Ability to coordinate commissioning and handover processes.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise the construction phase of Wastewater Treatment Plant upgrade works and associated works.
  • Act as the primary site supervision representative, ensuring works are completed to the required quality standards.
  • Coordinate and liaise with Uisce Éireann, contractors, consultants and design teams throughout project delivery.
  • Monitor compliance with technical specifications, contract requirements and regulatory obligations.
  • Promote and maintain high standards of health, safety and environmental performance on site.
  • Review construction methodologies, site procedures and proposed design modifications where required.
  • Support the planning and coordination of shutdowns, outages, tie‑ins, commissioning and operational readiness activities.
  • Facilitate effective stakeholder communication and client liaison throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Assist in resolving technical and construction‑related issues to minimise programme delays.
  • Contribute to lessons learned initiatives and continuous improvement of operational interface management practices.
  • Ensure project objectives are delivered safely, efficiently and within agreed timelines.

Senior Resident Engineer - Wastewater

Role Introduction and Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Resident Engineer to join a major wastewater treatment plant upgrade project in Clones, Monaghan. This role will support the delivery of significant improvements to one of Ireland's largest wastewater treatment facilities, including pumping station, inlet works, storm water tanks and new reed beds.

As Senior Resident Engineer, you will act as a key liaison between Uisce Éireann, contractors and design teams, ensuring works are delivered safely, efficiently and in full compliance with contractual, technical and regulatory requirements. This is an excellent opportunity for a civil engineering professional with substantial experience in water or wastewater infrastructure projects who is looking to play a leading role in the successful delivery of a high‑profile capital investment programme.

Key Responsibilities as Senior Resident Engineer

Essential Skills, Qualifications and Experience as Senior Resident Engineer
  • Minimum of 10 years' experience within civil engineering, to include wastewater projects.
  • Proven experience in a Resident Engineer, Site Engineer, Senior Engineer or Site Supervision role on wastewater treatment upgrades or similar infrastructure schemes.
  • Third-level qualification in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Strong understanding of wastewater treatment plants, wastewater networks, utility infrastructure or other wastewater projects.
  • Excellent knowledge of health and safety requirements associated with major civil engineering works.
  • Strong technical capability with the ability to review designs and assess construction-related changes.
  • Experience coordinating commissioning activities, operational interfaces and project handover processes.
  • Excellent organisational and planning skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and stakeholder management abilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary project teams.
