Position: Senior Researcher – Electrical Systems
What you will be working on
- High power density power electronics, including converter design, analysis and control
- Electrical power distribution architectures, including redundancy, fault isolation and system safety
- EMI analysis and filter design, including magnetic component design
- Converter and motor drive control, implemented on DSPs and/or FPGAs
- High-voltage effects and mitigation, including arcing faults, creepage and clearance, partial discharge, lightning and altitude/low-pressure considerations
- Aerospace electrical systems, architectures and certification standards
What you will do
- Develop and execute technology research plans within agreed time and budget requirements
- Generate innovative concepts through technical excellence, experimentation and creative thinking
- Design, build and test hardware prototypes and control strategies in lab environments
- Lead significant parts of research projects or complex technical subsystems
- Translate complex technical ideas into clear reports, presentations and recommendations
- Present research outcomes to senior technical and business stakeholders
- Contribute directly to long-term technology roadmaps
- Support proposals for externally funded research initiatives
- Collaborate with universities, government bodies, national laboratories and industry partners
- Help influence the future direction of electrified aviation technologies
What you will bring
- Typically requires a PhD with relevant academic or industrial experience, or a Master’s degree with strong relevant experience and a minimum of 3 years’ experience in a related field.
- Strong knowledge of electrical systems, power electronics, converter control or high-voltage technologies
- A practical, experimental mindset with enthusiasm for hands-on research and lab-based development
- The ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within international teams
- Strong communication skills, including the ability to present complex technical work to varied audiences
- The confidence to challenge assumptions, explore new approaches and expand beyond your core area of expertise
- Experience within aerospace, electrified propulsion, safety-critical systems or certification environments would be advantageous, but it is not essential.
