Job summary

ESB, Ireland's leading energy utility, seeks a Senior Regulatory Lawyer to advise on complex regulatory, competition and energy-law matters. You will support transactions, lead regulatory submissions, and work with internal teams and external advisers to navigate a dynamic regulatory landscape.

The role requires a qualified Ireland lawyer with extensive post-qualification experience in-house or in a firm, with strong drafting, stakeholder management and strategic advisory skills.

Qualifications

• Advising on regulated industries, energy sector familiarity is preferred.
• Strong drafting skills for regulatory submissions and contracts.

Responsibilities

• Advise on complex regulatory, compliance and contractual matters, including energy legislation and regulation, competition law, state aid, statutory and license interpretation, public and administrative law, energy market codes, market abuse, lobbying and critical infrastructure requirements.
• Provide legal/regulatory support on transactions, including acquisitions, joint ventures and related sectoral regulatory, competition, merger control, foreign direct investment and State aid issues.
• Advise on contentious/regulatory matters, including pre-litigation and dispute-stage issues.
• Advise and brief the business on regulatory licence obligations, ring-fencing requirements, competition law compliance and wider compliance policies, coordinating with Group Compliance as needed.
• Draft, review and advise on regulatory and policy submissions, responses to investigations or enquiries, and other engagements with regulators and government bodies.
• Manage engagement with external legal advisers, ensuring input is aligned with business needs and effectively briefed.
