Job summary

Medica in Dublin seeks a Senior Radiographer to lead MRI and General Radiography services in the Radiology Department. The role requires strong MRI and X-ray experience, CORU registration, and a minimum of four years post-qualification practice, including MRI.

The successful candidate will contribute to quality imaging, safety, governance, and service development while supporting urgent care imaging, QA, and DXA pathways as required.

Qualifications

• BSc (Hons) in Diagnostic Radiography or equivalent.
• CORU registration as a Radiographer, or evidence of registration in progress.
• Minimum 4 years' post-qualification radiography experience, including MRI experience.
• Successful completion of an MRI training programme and demonstrated competency.

Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality imaging across MRI and General Radiography for outpatients and urgent care.
• Lead radiography team and liaise with patients, referrers and department stakeholders.
• Deliver MRI examinations and General Radiography services across a varied caseload.
• Support urgent care imaging and ensure timely patient pathways.
• Plan, organise and coordinate MRI and General Radiography services for safe delivery.
• Optimise patient workflows to minimise waiting times and maximise scanner utilisation.
• Adhere to SOPs, protocols and documentation to support quality imaging.
• Participate in QA programmes, equipment testing and service improvement.
• Ensure MRI safety compliance with the MRI Safety Team and safety processes.
• Engage in audits, incident reporting and risk assessment activities.
• Support compliance with HIQA, EPA and CHKS inspections and visits.
• Instruct and develop radiographers and radiology staff through training.
• Assist with rostering and identify service gaps; perform admin tasks as needed.
• Assist with consumables management and ordering.
• Escalate risks and contribute to corrective actions.
• Contribute to service development and new imaging pathways.
• If trained, support DXA services and bone health pathways development.
• Provide rostered clinical backfill including occasional evenings/out-of-hours.

Position Summary:

As Senior Radiographer, you will lead and deliver high-quality MRI services within the Radiology Department while also supporting Urgent Care X-ray services as required. The successful candidate must be experienced in both MRI and General Radiography (X-ray). Experience in DXA scanning would be advantageous but is not essential.

Key responsibilities:

• Provide high-quality diagnostic imaging services across MRI and General Radiography (X-ray), including outpatient and urgent care imaging pathways.
• Act as a senior member of the radiography team and maintain strong working relationships with patients, referrers, Vhi lead clinicians, the Medica Unit Manager – Diagnostics Services, and departmental stakeholders.
• Deliver imaging services across a varied caseload including MRI examinations (musculoskeletal, spinal, neurological, contrast-enhanced and specialist examinations) and General Radiography services.
• Support urgent care imaging services, ensuring timely imaging of patients presenting with acute injuries and facilitating efficient patient pathways.
• Assist in the planning, organisation and co-ordination of MRI and General Radiography services to ensure safe, efficient, and patient-centered service delivery.
• Ensure patient workflows are optimised to minimise waiting times, maximise scanner and room utilisation, and enhance the overall patient experience.
• Adhere to departmental standard operating procedures, protocols, and associated documentation to support high-quality diagnostic imaging services.
• Participate in quality assurance programmes, equipment testing, maintenance activities and service improvement initiatives across all imaging modalities.
• Work closely with the MRI Safety Team to maintain compliance with MRI safety requirements and support local MRI safety processes.
• Participate in departmental clinical audits, incident reporting, risk assessments and quality improvement programmes.
• Support compliance with HIQA, EPA, and other relevant regulatory and accreditation requirements (e.g., CHKS), assisting with inspections and site visits as required.
• Assist with the induction, training and ongoing professional development of radiographers, radiology assistants and other staff members.
• Support operational rostering and help identify and address service gaps where required.
• Undertake administrative tasks necessary for the efficient operation of the Radiology Department.
• Assist with the management, tracking and ordering of departmental consumables and supplies.
• Escalate operational, clinical, or service risks appropriately and support the implementation of corrective actions where required.
• Contribute to service development initiatives, including the introduction of new imaging pathways, techniques, and service delivery models.
• Where trained and competent, support DXA services and contribute to the ongoing development of bone health pathways within the department.
• Demonstrate flexibility in working arrangements by providing rostered clinical backfill, including occasional evening and out-of-hours sessions, to support staffing requirements, annual leave cover, sickness absence and service continuity e.g., occasional cover may be required in sister Vhi sites nationwide or Arklow Wicklow.
• Assist the Unit Manager – Diagnostic Services in the managing of any issues that may arise within the clinic and alert them of any potential areas of risk

Qualifications:

• BSc (Hons) in Diagnostic Radiography or equivalent recognised qualification.
• CORU registration as a Radiographer, or evidence of registration in progress.
• Minimum 4 years' post-qualification radiography experience, including at least 1 year of MRI experience.
• Successful completion of an MRI training programme and demonstrated competency in MRI practice.
• Experience working within quality assurance and clinical governance frameworks.

Desirable Skills:

• Recognised post graduate qualification (e.g. MSc in MRI, PgC in DXA)
• Prior experience working a Senior Radiographer
• Experience supporting accreditation programmes, regulatory inspections, or service development initiatives.
