Job summary

NRL is seeking a Senior Project Engineer – Mechanical in Dublin to lead mechanical upgrades for live data centre projects across Europe. The role focuses on delivering safety, efficiency and innovation while managing complex retrofit programmes in live environments.

You will oversee design, coordination with clients and contractors, and ensure compliance with relevant standards, while mentoring junior engineers and contributing to business development opportunities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s in Mechanical Engineering.
  • 8+ years in building services, with 3+ years in data centre or mission-critical projects.
  • Chartered Engineer status or working towards.
  • Strong knowledge of Irish/EU regulations and standards (CIBSE/ASHRAE/BS).
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit MEP, Bluebeam, and MS Office.

Responsibilities

  • Lead design and delivery of mechanical upgrades in live data centres.
  • Prepare design drawings, schematics, schedules, reports, and tender docs.
  • Manage scope, budgets, timelines, and contracts; mitigate live-environment risks.
  • Develop retrofit strategies, including tie-ins to live systems and outage planning.
  • Liaise with clients, contractors, and vendors for zero-disruption delivery.
  • Drive quality assurance and ensure compliance with WAP/PTW protocols.
  • Mentor junior engineers and support their professional growth.
  • Contribute to proposals, client presentations, and technical strategies.

Summary

Join a leading engineering consultancy in Dublin as a Senior Project Engineer – Mechanical, where you’ll be at the forefront of critical data centre retrofit projects across Europe. This permanent role offers an exciting opportunity for an experienced engineer to lead complex mechanical upgrades in live environments, ensuring safety, efficiency, and innovation throughout delivery.

€75,000 – €85,000 per year

Responsibilities
  • Lead the design and delivery of mechanical building services upgrades within live data centre environments, including M&E upgrades, capacity increases, and phased refurbishments.
  • Prepare and review design drawings, schematics, schedules, technical reports, and tender documentation.
  • Manage project scope, budgets, timelines, and contracts, mitigating live-environment risks.
  • Develop retrofit-specific design strategies, including tie-ins to live systems, resilience planning, and outage management.
  • Liaise with clients, contractors, and vendors to ensure zero-disruption project delivery.
  • Drive quality assurance and ensure compliance with WAP/PTW protocols.
  • Mentor junior engineers and support their professional growth within retrofit workstreams.
  • Contribute to proposals, client presentations, and technical strategies for broader business development.
Must-have Requirements
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
  • Minimum of 8 years in building services engineering, with at least 3 years in data centre or mission-critical projects.
  • Proven experience managing live-environment upgrades such as plant replacement and M&E upgrades.
  • Chartered Engineer status (or working towards) with Engineers Ireland or equivalent.
  • Strong knowledge of Irish/EU building regulations and standards (CIBSE, ASHRAE, BS).
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit MEP, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office.
Nice-to-have Skills
  • Familiarity with IES, HAP, or similar analysis tools.
  • Knowledge of LEED/BREEAM standards and EU Energy Efficiency Directive.
  • Understanding of PUE optimisation and ESG targets.
