Job summary

Whatnot Inc. is seeking a Production Engineer to embed with product, platform, and infrastructure teams to identify and fix issues at scale in live commerce systems. You will own incidents, drive improvements in reliability, and work across payments, video, search, and security domains.

We value engineers who thrive in complex environments, with strong distributed systems knowledge and experience with cloud-native stacks on AWS or GCP. Remote-friendly and Dublin hub opportunities are available.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
• 6+ years building and debugging production services at scale.
• Strong systems and distributed systems fundamentals including failure modes and load behavior.
• Fluency with cloud-native environments on AWS or GCP and Kubernetes.

Responsibilities

• Go deep with the embedding team to improve reliability, performance, and scalability of their systems.
• Hunt anomalies across traffic, latency, error, and cost signals and trace root causes across services.
• Connect operational signals to business impact across cohorts and systems.
• Work where risk concentrates: payments, live video, search, bidding path, and security.
• Prepare for peak events with capacity modeling and load testing.
• Improve observability to detect next anomaly quickly.
• Apply AI to operations for anomaly detection and remediation.
• Share on-call duties and lead incident response for cross-team failures.
